100,000 Mile Club

I like the idea of the 100K blog so that some of us who have questions on high mileage can post specifics. I know that the tech forum might be the place to post, but here goes, anyway. For example efusco mentions "you've replaced the traction battery." So when does it need replacing? Two dealers said it was "fine" but we now are getting 37 or so driving mpg oriented, (Down from 55mpg.) So we did the fuel injector cleanout, tire pressure thing, and still no happiness. (Maybe the dealers have policies on when NOT to replace?) Maybe I should invent a batterylife checker. So how long should a 288V battery live?

Just hit 110,000 miles.

Only repairs were
1) Alignment
2) Clogged fuel injectors (which left me sitting once). It worked fine after I dumped in fuel injector cleaner.

Bought a 2005 Prius in August 2005. It has been 4 years, and in that time we have put 110,000 miles on her.

I average somewhere between 50, and 60 MPG. My last tank has been 55MPG with 90% of the miles on 65+ MPH highway driving. My record tank is 60.1 MPG. The battery appears to be in fine shape.

My most interesting record is 100+ MPG for ~10 miles doing 60+ miles per hour. That's right, over 100 MPG at over 60MPH for ten whole minutes. I was sitting in the wake of a trailor going down a a small 1% grade.

I do not coast, or impulse drive. And I very rarely, if ever, drift behind trucks.

There is zero modifications to the car. In matter of fact, it's been abused somewhat. It has 4 dents, and a hole in the front bumper. The front and rear air dam have been ripped off.

2005 Prius purchased 12/2004. I put 104,000 trouble free miles on it before a drunk driver ran a red light and totaled it. We were planning an making it to the 200,000 club!
Thanks to the airbags and side curtains, there were no broken bones, and no stitches.
We just purchased a 2008 with 11,000 miles to replace it.

I bought a 2005 in 5/05 and now have 105000 miles. Only repairs have been tires (twice) and replacing front & rear bumpers after being rear ended on the freeway. I have a 120 mi/day commute with backroads, freeways and 2 passes (1000ft and 600ft). Mileage started at 49/50 and is now down to 47/48. My summary of the car is great mileage, reliable, and with the CA HOV stickers, a time saver. Best car I have ever purchased.

I purchased my Prius used with about 70K last November. I now have over 101K on it. I am getting 53-57 mpg per tank over the summer running 0W-20 Mobil 1 with 5K changes. I'll see 200K in about 2 1/2 years at this rate. I will get the inverter coolant changed this week as recommended. I had the coolant flushed last week. It still runs great and I expect that it will for quite some time.

I hit 100,000 last night on my '04. Goodbye extended warranty, but at least I got it into the shop yesterday for a last look through. So far, I've only had one breakdown - coolant pump - that required towing. And, I have to admit, I ran it out of gas once about three years ago.

My last payment is next month, so as much as I want to upgrade I think I'm going to keep driving this one for at least another year or two.

Time for tires and maybe a new navigation dvd if I can find a decent price somewhere (dealer quoted $280 yesterday).

Bought my 2004 Prius May 22, 2004, back when it was hard to get one. Best car I ever owned. I have 127k miles on it. Not one problem with it, ever. Dealer said that front brake pads still have 90% left and rears 75%. Used it for daily 84 mile compute (round trip). Averaged 49 to 51 MPG on tank, until I replaced OEM tires with Michelin Harmony at 40K miles. Mileage dropped by about 2 MPG after that. Now that I am retired (2 months ago) I don’t put on the mileage anymore and my MPG has dropped to 44-45 MPG, because they are mostly short trips in a hilly area.

I had 118,867 miles when I sold my 2006, and it was still running great. I had a couple issues with the AC (loose hose?) and this was repaired under warrenty. I also needed to have both front wheel bearings replaced at about 99,000, again still covered by the extended warrenty. I drive mostly on the freeway and averaged about 46 mpg. Last summer, when gas prices were up to $4.50, I dropped my speed to 60 max. My mpg then was 54. I really loved that car, I hope my '10 serves me as well.

I have a 2005 Prius with navigation and it just recently surpassed 145,000 miles. She has performed beautifully for our family. Aside from the normal maintenance (oil, filter, brakes and tires), the only major maintenance project that she has undergone was a DIY front and rear "strut" weekend. While I have replaced struts previously on different vehicles, none have been as challenging as this gal.

While I would encourage almost anyone to give this DIY job a try, most, including myself might need to set aside a full weekend to ensure that you have all contingencies covered. If any of you elect to give this project a try and would like some hints, just drop me a line and I would me more than happy to help you however I can.

I can honestly say, by replacing her struts, she now has the ride that my family and I enjoyed when we first bought her. On a recent trip to Seattle (prior to replacing the struts), her ride had deteriorated so much that we literally felt every imperfection in the road that we traveled. Needless to say, I wished that I had taken the time to work in this DIY strut weekend prior to our trip. If I had, this 3,000 mile trip would have been much more enjoyable. Oh well, live and learn! I will schedule to replace these at the 250,000 mark.

My 2006 Prius hit 100K last week. I have been very happy with this car.

I'e been doing my own oil changes every 10k miles with Mobil1 5W-30 since the 5K interval with the dealer ended at 60k miles or so.

New tires at 50k miles replaced with Michelin hydro tires.

I carry my 10 foot surfboard with the front passenger side seat folded back and the rear side folded forward with the head rests removed.

I've been averaging slightly more than 50mpg. The milage is better in the summer than the winter.

At what mileage are people finding that they need to replace brake pads?
