I recently inherited my fathers 2005 Prius with 114,000 miles. My first thought was to sell it and keep driving my beloved 2004 Passat, but after driving it for a few days I decided I liked it and the thought of paying half as much for fuel and maintenance sold me on it. It's also a savings of about 20% on insurance.
The only thing my dad ever had to fix or replace on it was the 12v battery at about 100k and it looks like new on the outside and has only minor wear on the inside. After hearing the stories of Priuses (Prii?) with 3-400,000 miles, I'm hoping to have a long-term relationship with this car.

I bought my 2005 Prius in May of 2008, with 30,000 miles on it, just at the time gas hit $4/gallon! I was lucky to find this used one, the last one in the area! Overall, been pleased with it. Have had both water pumps replaced under a TSB, and the only serious repair was a fuel pump that conked out. Complaint: took the deal 6+ hours of diagnosis at $105/hr!!!! to find it. Not happy at all about that. Repair involves replacing the entire fuel tank assembly (which contains a rubber bladder). Total cost: $1500...for a FUEL PUMP! Yikes! Like many others, I had initial problems with premature tire wear, but have had very good results with Goodyear Viva Authority low-rolling-resistance tires. Better winter traction, too. Average mileage I'm guessing at about 46 (48 summer, 43 winter), due to reduction from winter driving where the gas engine has to run more to provide interior heat. Overall, I'm pleased with the car. (But I confess I do miss my pickup truck, which I had to give up because of high fuel costs...)

Just by dumb luck yesterday I glanced at my odometer on the way to work and it was on 100,000. When I got to a signal and tried to take a picture it had rolled to 100,001. Unfortunately the way the sun was angled the pic didn't come out. I purchased the car new in October 2005 and here are the stats through 91k miles (haven't compiled the data since then).

Gallons used: 2043.08
Calculated lifetime MPG: 44.8
Indicated lifetime MPG: 46.0
High tank (indicated): 54.1
Low tank (indicated): 41.7
Best range: 483 miles

This milestone is a little bittersweet as I won't own the car too much longer. Nothing to do with the miles, or reliability, everything to do with HOV access. I have a Volt on order and should get it next month.

Love love luv my Prius - 157k+ miles. Many more to go - only problem was water pump - compared to all other cars I've had -- I'm sold. I can't wait to join the 200K club

2006 Prius base model (purchased new)- now at 116K We just had to replace the "hybrid control computer" and "auxilliary battery" within a few weeks of each other, which we were alerted to via the vague exclaimation point inside the red triangle and the word "problem" on the touch screen. Other than that, just tires and oil changes.

I also put 85K on an '04 Prius with no problems whatsoever.

My wife and I are debating selling/trading in, but with all the 100K+ sucess stories I'm reading on here, I'm more optomistic. We love our car, and would rather not part with it.

I just hit the 228,000 mark. Bought in 04 with 60k. Last month the original battery in trunk died. 10 years...wow. Replaced both front and R rear wheel bearings. One strut is making noise. Several death triangle events on dash but after rebooting the ignition, all is well.
Blower motor sometimes needs a slap to get started. Think there may be twigs or a nest in heater; something is rubbing blades. Low 40s per gallon. Planning a 300k party in the future, if I can last that long..

Bought new in April 2007 - passed 100K last month. Couldn't be happier with the car despite being in 2 major wrecks. Both times rear ended and pushed into car in front while stopped at a light. No injuries but major body work needed. I always leave room in front now.
Rising gas prices only serve to remind me I made the right choice buying a Prius. On the 2nd set of tires - probably need to replace in next month or so. No major repairs. Just the usual maintenance and recall work. Went to the dealer today for oil change and tire rotate. Tech says I need to replace the water pump - leaking around bearing. Went to check my extended warranty to see if it is covered. Bad news - warranty expired at 100K.
Good news - warranty came with a money back guarantee if it was never needed.
Checked with Service Desk - nope, no warranty claims ever used. Called Dealer Finance (they sold me the warranty) - told me to come in with the warranty and the car and they will issue a check for $1340.00
That should cover the water pump, a set of tires and a couple years of routine maintenance. 200K here I come!

Bought my "06 in March of 2006, now have 151,000 miles on it. Only problems have been regarding headlights- replaced 6 HID's and got Toyota to cover most of cost after it was out of warranty, and "self-leveling headlight sensor". Just replaced the 12V battery today. Otherwise, been a great car! Live in Illinois, so 35-38mpg in winter, 50+ in summer.

Bought my '06 in July of '08 with just over 14K miles on it. It had been in an accident and was for sale as a rebuilder. Since my husband is a collision tech, it made sense for us to buy it to fix up for ourselves. He completed the repairs and I started driving it that fall ('08). We liked it so much we bought another one in the fall of '09. It is a 2005 and had just turned 100,000 miles. This one just turned 150,000 miles and we just put new brakes on it. No issues other than maintenance. Mine, the '06, is almost to 100,000 miles and I'm looking at some repair to the A/C which is intermittantly not working. After checking out the blogs, I've got some good ideas what to look for. We also bought and repaired an '04 in the meantime which we sold last summer. We love the Prius! This is the longest we have ever owned any car and anytime my husband finds something nice to rebuild, I say no way. I like my gas mileage too much and love the versatility of the hatchback!

I'm a new member and found this forum by Google searching for help with my A/C issue. I started searching around and found such great information, I just had to join. Looking forward to posting when my '06 reaches the 100,000 mile mark which will most likely be later this year - we drive a lot!
