Just picked up my 07 touring model and can't remember how to silence the reverse beep. I've searched thru the manual with no luck. If anyone remembers how to silence it please either email me at bradysplace1@earthlink.net or just respond to this message with the directions. Thanks in advance. Greg

I asked the dealership to turn off the reverse beep. They told me it is a safety requirement in all 2007 models. =\

To disable the reverse BEEP:

1. Power up the car to IG-ON or READY
2. With the Trip/ODO button, set the Trip/ODO button to ODO, if it's already on ODO, shift to Trip, back to ODO.
3. Power the car OFF
4. Power the car to READY
5. Within 6 seconds, press and hold the Trip/ODO button for 10 seconds or more, keep holding
6. WHILE STILL HOLDING ODO *after* the 10 seconds, shift to PARK to REVERSE, back to PARK, then release the Trip/ODO button
7. If Step 6 was successful, "b on" or "b off" should be displayed where the odometer is usually displayed
8. Press Trip/ODO to toggle the display
9. Power the car OFF to exit
10. Power the car ON to READY and shift to "REVERSE" to confirm your success.

GOOD LUCK... always took be 2 or 3 tries to get it to take.

I was lucky and got this working the first time around.

It's still not clear to me how this is a "safety feature". How would an INTERNAL reverse beep enhance safety?

If you are so dim that you didn't notice that you pushed the shifter to the reverse position, don't notice the flashing "R" indicator on the dash, don't notice the center large MFD showing the reverse camera view, and like to jump from the brake to stomping on the gas (so you don't have a chance to feel the car move backwards), THEN.... it just might catch your attention that you are in reverse if you happen to hear the beeping and it somehow penetrates your dimness that the beeping just might be an indicator that you are in reverse.

Of course, you might not hear it if the radio is up too loud, you are talking on the phone, or you have ipod earbuds jammed in your ears.

Large corporations call this sort of thing a 6-sigma type of warning.

THANKS! That annoying beep was one of the only things I disliked about my prius! Honestly, I don't know if my dealer just didn't want me to disable it (for safety reasons) or they just didn't know how.

Now... does anyone know how to display the backup camera when driving forward? :P

Awsome,
I just disabled mine, took me two tries. The ICE came on a bunch of times, like on days fist 5 minutes of driving. I hope the dealer doesn't reenable it when I go in for my oil changes. I bet it does start again if they have to disconnect the battery, which the service manual says to do whenever you do anything.

Changing a light bulb.
1. Disconnect the batrtery.
2 Change the bulb.
3. Reconnect the battery.
4. reset everything.

Thanks Snick. It took two attempts but finally silence. Greg

Forgetting that one is in reverse happens to the best of us if our minds are on other things. Somewhere on PC there is an excelent post on how to put a small beeper in the tail light assembly that people OUTSIDE and some on the inside hear the warning-- a superior idea to the REALLY LOUD beeper inside. (Toyota are you listening?)
