trailer wiring harness info for 2007 Pri

will a converter be needed to wire a small utility trailer that has front and rear side marking lights and rear tail light and lic. light? such as a modulite 18187

or will the draw-tite 18308 with the wires re-pinned work and power all the lights on a trailer? with out anything else needed?

Can't answer all your questions but with the 118308, you just don't want to be running a whole lot of lights since all the power is coming from car wiring that was just supposed to be powering the rear tailights. From the brochure that came with the 119308:

"Maximum stop light/turning signal per side is 1 (2.1 amps)
Maximum number of tailights (4.2 amps)"

The standard converter offered is normally a 5 amp per circuit box. At 1/2 amp per buld plus 1 or 2 for bad contacts and high resistence.. you still should be okay with normal trailering

You can however, go along with a heavy duty modulite that carries up to 20amp per circuit load.

Those Modulites take the trailer lamp power generation from the 12 volt battery circuits and transfer direct power to the trailer circuit lamp.

We have installed a few of the simpe converters, but all the modulite converters that are recommended now for any vehicle bypasses the vehicle standard harness circuit power, and uses a detect diode to switch to supplemental battery power.

No harm to the vehicle electrical system, and all the power you need, based on the sizew of your modulite...

Good luck with it. Splicing into the vehicle harness does not pose a problem.. the modulite has its own fuseable circuit..

I don't know about the 2007, but the manual for my 2004 says never tow a trailer. Maybe you'd get away with towing something really light, but the Prius was not designed for towing. So be very careful with anything of significant weight. Note that it's probably the PSD you'd have to worry about, rather than lack of total HP.

This is for a bicycle trailer only, very light weight if the wife can pick it up I know it's light. And she is recovering from cancer even .
I dont think the light will be used since we only ride bikes in daytime.

Nothing special will be needed if you use LED lights on the trailer! Your current situation can probably handle a small incandescent load, but I'm not going to add that much load simply because I'll switch everything out to much lower-draw LEDs on the trailer.

Even if you tow in the day, you'll need brakes and turn signals.

What trailer are you getting? I ordered SportsRig that is due any day now.

Looked into the sportsrig but $$$$ way too much bucks we were quoted 1200.00 plus shipping

no way. Just going to make a homade trailer frame possibly aluminum or 3/16 steel would like the aluminum though. , flatbed no sides use eye bolts to tie down bikes like you would with a motorcycle. bed to be 1/2" plywood. plus room to carry a cooler or haul other light weight items such as rubber raft or tubes.
now I have a reg set of trailer lights not LED is there something needed to swap out the incandescent bulbs?

BTW I got the Curt hitch today what a strong hitch it will never bend like the coastals have that I've seen here. their new number is 11468

You may want to check your state laws. In some states trailer lights aren't required if the tow vehicle tail lights remain visible.
