I paid nearly 24k for a 2007 Prius Touring Edition with only standard features. I couldn't afford another $2500 to $5000 they were asking for the packages, and there was no haggling on the price. The Toyota dealer pretty much has the attitude of "That's the price. If you don't buy it, the guy right behind you will."
[/b]

HOW DO YOU LIKE your touring Edition ? Is the ride as smooth as the regular model ?
Thanks !
I know what you mean about Prius salesmen.

I really like my Touring Edition so far. The ride is pretty good. Of course you can feel the bumps more than you can with a larger car, but I figure that's what you get with a smaller car.

My girlfriend just made a deal for a Package 2 for $22,400 + TTL. That doesn't sound great but they sweetened it up by giving her excellent money for her trade (KBB + $1000). They gave us the same run around when we first walked in. "There's no wiggle room on price, Prius are all drying up because gas prices are climbing!" So we said "thanks" and walked out the door. The next day they called back with the numbers.

It's a game, and it always starts with them trying to make you pay at least MSRP. Some dealers play nicer than others. If they know you are ready to buy a car and they know money is the issue, they'll work. I'll bet there was at least another $500 worth of "wiggle room" for someone with more negotiation skills than I have (which are limited).

But that's Connecticut, a bit far from San Antonio. And dealer overhead is completely different.

Pola, to be perfectly honest, price quotes can vary from one day to the next. You might get a quote from one salesman today, and when you go back, someone else says that price was wrong. Most dealers will tell you any number just to get you into the dealership. They won't really talk turkey till you have a checkbook in your hand, ready to buy.

Asking us to compare prices against what you've heard is really a waste of time. Call and visit dealers yourself, so at least you know who's telling you what. You're not going to find a quick answer like "So-and-so is the cheapest in the world."

my dad is in mission , tx which is only a few hundred miles from u and he paid 28432 after taxes for touring 07 pkg 4 with leather. he also got the extended warantee. i dont think he got all that good a deal but it was the only one they had on the lot. he did get 12,000 trade on his 2005 camry with low miles. (he is in his 70's and does not drive that much any more) so have to say its probably your area. not as much allotment so dealers can get away with charging the higher prices.

Pola, do you have Costco? Some folks have gotten good prices on Prii through the Costco auto buying program.

We paid $23K for our 07 pkg 4 Touring last month at a dealership in Idaho. Prolly could have gotten less, but someone's dumb wife said, "We'll take it " just when he was about to start negotiating. (He forgave me.)
