I have been thinking of buying a jump pack as a precaution for my vehicle. I have been looking at this one at Amazon...

http://www.amazon.com/Schumacher-PS-400-3A...9344438-3435103

Would this be sufficient to jump start the car if the 12V battery died? Can anyone suggest another unit that they feel is better suited and maybe cheaper?

That should do the job, but you can find a suitable one for considerably less. I bought one for $40. Never had to use it on the Prius, but it jumped my fiancee's Subaru. The Prius' 12V battery takes considerably less juice than most car batteries, so I expect it will handle the Prius with no problem.

Check your local Sam's or Costco. I bought a "Jump Start System" at Sam's for about $44. Ir also has an emergency light (LED), an air compressor, and a USB charging port.
