You're the ?winner? so far. Only one in the over-40 category (assuming you answered the poll the same as your post).

As we're approaching 100 respondents, we're starting to see a decent bell curve, looks to be centered around 16,000 miles/year (26,000 km/year), which is more than I expected. A small sampling of cars-for-sale implies an average closer to 12,500 miles/year (but I don't know if those were bought at the beginning or end of the model year, and how long they sat for prep, etc.).

Part of the reason for doing this (and I didn't want to state it up front, in order to not skew the results) is that a cornerstone of CNW Marketing's claim for energy cost of the Prius is that it will only be driven on average 109,000 miles in its lifetime. This is based on their research showing the average Prius driver puts on about 7,000 miles/year. In this survey, only about 11% fall into that category, which surprisingly is a little less than those that drive 30K-40K/year. Mind you, I'm not condoning excessive driving, but I think the Prius is attractive to people who already are putting a lot of miles on the road, and really need the most efficient and practical car to do so.

So either we're not average, or CNW is full of hot air, I'll leave the conclusion up to you.

Its pretty obvious that CNW picked their assumptions and data to support the argument they wanted to make.

It would be interesting to know how many privately owned H2(s) have made it to 300K miles (I believe CNW est life was ~350k). I bet its not many.

The Prius was est at 109k; there are a bunch of taxis way past that and Jesse's Prius is close to 320k.

one last shameless pump: this has been a pretty good response, but I'd like to get over 100 responses (sitting at 99 now), so I'll see if the late-night audience has anything to say about this.
