I bought a 2008 Prius with Package #2 on Friday. The dealer had just been alloted several that were still in Japan. He said it will take a while to get here. Does anyone know how long the trip takes to Minnesota? Thanks in advance.

Since the only data point you've given us is Minnesota, you really can't expect an answer here.

There are too many variables:

- Is the car actually built yet?
- How long to clear Japan customs and be loaded;
- How long to load the rest of the ship before it sails. Even if your car is the first to be loaded, the ship won't sail till it's full of cars.
- How long the ship takes. Does it sail to the west coast, east coast, or to the Great Lakes?
- Time spent in the US port unloading and clearing US Customs;
- Time spent in prep at Toyota's port facility. This includes some option installations;
- Time spent over land delivering to your dealer;
- Time spent at your dealer being prepped for delivery.

Your best bet? Ask your dealer, and have him check Toyota's computer system for the expected delivery date. It's there; he just didn't bother to check it.

If it is in Japan, maybe 2-3 weeks. A bunch of ocean to cover between here and there...

Sorry, I should have been more specific.
The car has been built and has been allocated to the dealer. They said it should go to Portland by ship, St. Paul by rail and then to the dealer by truck.

Thanks for the info.

2 months give or take a cople of weeks. That's what I was told by the first dealer I contacted who said to get the exact car I want, they'd have to ship it from Japan.

when I ordered mine back in march, I was told mine was on the boat, about 6 days later the dealer called and told me that it arrived in Portland (or was it Tacoma) and that it was now on rail to Ohio, then about 4 days after that they called and said that it had arrived, and said I could pick it up the following morning as they had to do the pre-delivery inspection and remove all the plastic.

Long story short I gave my deposit on Tues 3/20 and took delivery Sat 3/31.

Hmm.. it took 40 days for my Prius to be ordered, built and shipped to BC back in Sept/Oct 2004.
