Thumbs up

Here's a question - On my '08 Prius Touring which I've driven about 600 miles now the maximum battery I've seen is 6 bars, never full.
I have a friend with a '07 Prius that also has the same experience.
Do I need to get down from a big mountain to see 8 bars?
I'm getting about 50mpg from my 10 miles commute.
Thanks for any insight (pun intended!)

When we rented a Prius in September, the only time I saw a full battery was when we drove down from Boulder City down to Lake Mead. Of course, the AC was on full most of the time we had the car. My guess is you won't see a full battery very often.

With my 2007 touring the only time I see green is when my Scangauge II shows the SOC at 65 or over. The highest I have seen the SOC reading is about 68, but I have not been down any really long hills (since we don't have any around here).

The Scangauge II has really helped me adjust my driveing to get a little better MPG. I am still not very good at the P and G but am working on it.

We have a '07, and I've seen full green bars a couple times, when going down a long grade enroute from SAN to Yuma. Otherwise, most always one green bar down from the top. It's normal.

Strange. My 07 Prius seems to float around 7 green bars and 6 blue bars. I basically get 7 green bars every time I drive the car. I've had full 8 green bars 4-5 times, and then you can hear the engine starting to spin to provide some drag. But this engine spinning is way less than putting your car i B mode.

All above is normal. It takes a moderate hill in a Prius to get a full battery icon. I've only gotten the battery icon on our Highlander Hybrid full twice...once going down the west side from Eisenhower tunnel the other going down the East side from the Eisenhower! Much tougher to get it 'full'.

I see full battery every day at the bottom of a long down hill run just before I select B mode for the last little bit.

Three years and three months of driving a Prius and I've seen a completely green battery maybe three times.

I see 7 bars occasionally when driving around town without A/C. I've only seen 8 bars after a long downhill trip.

You've never had the "sixty to zero surprise" secondary-highway
traffic light goes yellow and it's slightly downhill and you have to
stop pretty hard from high speed? That generally brings it to 7,
and can do 8 on a couple of, uh, "special" downhills around here.
But these are relatively modest hills, it's just the fact that I
have to put all that kinetic energy somewhere RIGHT NOW.
