Torque on Demand is what I was referring to the amazing highway passing power. The difference is the smooth, consistent, and confident power delivery.

However, the above illustrations are compared to a manual labor transmission but it gets the same point across.

Below is a quote from the Iconic Prius chief engineer, Masao Inoue. He explained the human body experience vs. the figure very well.

With the Prius we talk about quietness. Now noise can be measured by figures, but there is also a quietness that you feel with your body. For instance, with regard to the acceleration, the Prius is very different from other cars. You can time the speed of acceleration with a stopwatch, but the actual speed and the body's perception of it are very different. Of course, we do measure these things, and we set some target figures. But just because we get the target figure we're after, it doesn't mean it's okay. Figures are figures. We need to be able to feel the quietness or feel good about the acceleration as we actually experience it in the car. I think these things are very important.
