Friends: 0 | Hi, I have a regular key fob (i.e. not keyless entry type). I lost the spare fob, so wondering if the remote opening of door function using the fob can be disabled temporarily to allow time to look for key. want to disable it in case whoever that got the key will click around the parkiing lot to find my car and drive it away. I would use the valet (manual) key to open door for the time being. I know I can reprogram the key (which will cost $90 per dealer quote :-(, but trying to avoid this while keeping the car safe and giving some time in case the key "turns up". (Oh, btw, anyone knows how to reprogram it without having dealer do it? ) thanks.

Friends: 7 | Sorry Pal, That one's a dealer only type thing, at least so far as I know... I have only ever been able to program keys using a factory scan tool. I also know of no way to disable the keyless entry system short of disconnecting the 12v battery. That would also leave you with no way to start the car short of crawling into the trunk area to reconnect it. Best option is to have that particular key electronically disabled. |
