Default Who put in an alarm in my '04 pkg 3

Something weird happened while I was doing my 20k oil change. While I was putting in the new filter reaching under the car and my right hand in the grill I felt somthng and the next thing I knew I heard a beep, about 10 seconds later my Prius is beeping and the lights are flashing.

But its an '04 Pkg 3 and no extras??!!! No alarm system. So why does it act like it does and only in this particular situation? We have had the car since March and this is the first time this has happened. Got some streaks of oil on the window sill getting into the car to start it up and shut down the mystery alarm.

Would I be able to access this hidden feature in a more consistant and useful way. I highly doubt that some random miscreant is going to sneak up and change the oil in my Prius.

Any explainations, or help?

test to see if it has an alarm
roll down the drivers window start car, stop car, open door, hit power lock, close door, wait 2 minutes, the reach inside thru window and open the door with the inside door handle. Alarm should go off. Standard on all Prius as far as I know.

Tried it. Nothing happened outside of my wife being relieved as it is 10:30 pm in my neighborhood.

Or did I get the sequence wrong window open, shut down, close door, leave and watch the weather and then open using the inside door release.

(I thought the alarm system only came with the higher '04 pkgs. Wish I could trade the mystery alarm for VSC.)

make sure that you lock the door before you close it. you can shut it off with the fob if it goes off. Just hit the unlock button. I was under the impression that all Prius have a basic alarm, along with an immoblizer.

I'll try tomorrow. If I try now my wife will kill me. ops: By the way, the car was unlocked and the hood open when I initially triggered the alarm.

well isn't that an interesting tidbit! No unwanted alarms at night please. I agree with you.

Did you have your fob in your pocket? I've got lots of keys on my fob, and OFTEN when it is in my pocket, a key will accidentally hit the red panic button on the fob...

i remember reading somewhere that the alarm is also attached to the hood of the car, to prevent your hood from being forced, and componets being stolen.
