I got mine replaced two days ago. The only noticable difference that I see is more corporate logos in the fast food and other icons. Also, Dunkin Donuts seems to be classified as a generic coffe house (coffee cup) now which is better than a generic fast food (hamburger) icon.

It doesn't have new road changes in the last year. I don't recall any particular problems on the old one that might have been fixed.

Like I posted before...I have 4.2 installed. It now does not map the area where I live...Green Valley AZ 20 mi south of Tucson. I have an appointment with Toyota service Tuesday to reinstall my old software (4.1?).

Old software mapped the area where I live (Green Valley) and "Agnes" talked me right to my front door.

Ver 4.2 does not do this...Agnes says something like "there will be roads with incomplete data and turn by turn guidance will not be available".

This sounds like the same behavior as the system in the '02-03 Prius. It uses NAVTEQ data overlaid with GDT data in areas where NAVTEQ doesn't have Detailed City coverage, but uses the presumed less reliable GDT data only for map display, not for routing (NAVTEQ now has coverage equivalent to GDT outside Detailed City areas, but Denso has apparently chosen not to use it). The previous disks for the '04-05 used only GDT data, so it's not excluded from use for routing.

Aha! Then...it may be possible that I got an update for an 02-03 Prius? Rather than my 04 Prius?

I don't think a version 04.2 exists for the '02-03 - the newest version I'm aware of for the Classic is 04.1, and it usually gets only one update per year. The purpose of the update for the '04-05 appears to have been to replace the single data source previously used on the newer nav system with the data sources used for the older models.

I had 4.2 installed on Monday and hated it immediately. It couldn't recognize the one and only way to my house - which it knew with 4.1. It also kept trying to get me to go on other streets that I know to be dead-ends. I also tried to drive me into the San Francisco Bay and through the city dump as a short cut to my house. BTW, there are NO connecting roads where it was directing me. I called the dealer to complain and they took me right in. Tried to re-initialize the DVD but that changed nothing so they reinstalled 4.1. I'm MUCH happier. I'll wait for the next update and try again.

Wednesday I upgraded from version 3.2 to 4.2. My initial experience is not encouraging. My home is still shown as 200 yards or so from where it is. A friend's home is shown at the entrance to the subdivision, not the back of the subdivision where they live, and the others in the sub appear to be the same. It appears that rather than driving 300 yards into the sub and mapping the data, the data collectors simply defaulted them all to the sub entrance. I really like the NAV system, but the data on my Microsoft Streets and Trips 2003 appears much more accurate, with many newer developments included that the Prius does not have data for. I have found 10 year old developments the Prius does not have data for. The Microsoft 2004 version with the GPS sensor also appears to have higher resolution than the Prius system. As a result, the 20 - 50+ foot errors which appear often with the Prius system are dead on with the Microsoft version. I think Toyota needs to review what they are getting from their supplier. While I am impressed with the NAV system in general, it does appear to have the worst data of any factory installed NAV system I have experienced to date.
