Dianne, I thought you had been quiet on the board for a couple of days. I too am glad to hear you're not seriously hurt. Best wishes for a speedy recovery: for both yourself and your Prius. --TK

Looks like your Prius took quite a hit and accepted the damage instead of passing it along to you. I know you are feeling the pain of losing such a great car, but I am very glad to hear you were able to walk away from an encounter (regardless of the speed) with a big rig.

If you are looking to replace your Prius with another GenII, then move quickly: Going, going, almost gone!

Otherwise, do not fear the 2010. I had a hard time leaving my 2007, but I think the GenIII is the truly superior car.

Default update

The car sustained some pretty serious damage UNDER the trappings... it's smushed in the back pan area between the spare and back taillight panel. That strange grayish patch looking thing on the metal is crunched too. The bumper's smashed but not shattered. Not a taillight was damaged... none of the hatch was that I can see although it closes a tad askew.

Body shop and adjusters agree $5800 damage.

One a side note, I had to laugh that my contact at the body shop of my choice (Bay Cities in the south bay area, they do SUCH fabulous work) mentioned he'd be flatbedding the car to "the dealership" to have the hybrid battery and other things removed, power disconnected" and then trucked back to be fixed ... I asked "what dealership?" assuming he knew to bring it here and he said "Oh, to Carson..." and I said absolutely not! You will not bring it there! You have to bring it HERE!" (LOL) ... I suppose a few of you might recognize the iront of the car going to Carson.

I do believe I may have risen a few decibels in this communication... needless to say, it's sitting out in MY lot in Manhattan Beach waiting to be brought back tomorrow for the cosmetic repair... and so I wait.

The girl who hit me was caught. An insurance company with several A's in their name is covering her portion of the damage. Mine's Mercury. Both have been very commubicative. I am renting a hybrid Camry for now. Enjoying its girth and ride, missing the fuel economy of the Prius and of course, my HOV stickers!

The body is healing. After that, the Cash4Clunkers fizzaazzle for the month, and the root canal I had this morning at 7:30, I feel quite invincible. NOT!

Thanks a bunch for the kind words and sweet thoughts!

I was the victim of a hit and run in late April -- very glad they found the guilty party for you.

With my 2010 hit just two weeks ago, I also was in the rental car world for awhile. Dodge Charger w/ 3.5Hemi! Just drove it around town and I achieved just under 14 MPG.

My sympathies to those of you who have had to rent a Charger or 300 while your Prii are being repaired. I've had to rent them occassionally for work....what a piece of junk they are! They can barely get out of their own way.

Default hybrid rental

I rented a Camry hybrid 2009 here at the dealership (we have hybrid rentals) and am getting 37 mpg average. Can't you (in the hemi) choose a more economical rental?

Time to declare it a total loss and transfer your HOV stickers to a brand new GenIII V with no AT

I don't theeeeeeenk so Stimpy!
The day the HOVs go dark with no chance at re-start, I would probably be in an IV with SR. Love the 17"s and HIDs but really want the sunroof.
