Default Seat Covers..Yes of No?

HI! I'm patiently waiting for my Tideland Pearl with ivory interior. I've been considering seat covers. On another thread, I've already learned that they fit pretty well. My question is.....

Do I really need them? I'm concerned with the light color and have heard conflicting stories: 1. they are dirt magnets and 2. they are of high quality and hold up very well, easy to clean etc.

Any thoughts from those of you lucky enough to already be driving a Prius? 8)

Thanks for any help! Can't wait to be green

Your mileage may vary.

In other words...it depends.

I have seat covers on the front only because I have a dog that rides shotgun and I'm the only driver. I carry no passengers. That said....I did manage to get a spot of tar on the back seat. I used Googone to get the tar and sticky off, then used water and detergent to wash the stain. You can't tell it happened.

But I expect to have the car 8-10 years so I thought having a cover on the front seats would keep them as close to the back seats as possible.

The seats clean well.

It's the armrests and center console that are a nightmare. I have leather covers on all of those purchases from Robin who goes by Priushoods on eBay. I think eventually I'll have just the console and armrests reupholstered in leather just for upkeep and wear. They are just awful to clean. And I've heard the material on the center console starts to come off easily.

I have the seat covers on the two front seats. Well worth the expense. I don't panic if someone appears as though they might spill something.

I have GT seat covers all the way around, including the center console, sides of the rear seats and head rests all the way around. Took about 2.5 hours to install (had to remove and reinstall the rear seat cushion). Well worth the effort.

The GT covers are a perfect match for the existing interior (Silver Millenium Prius). In addition I have the dashboard cover (grey) and rear storage area covers (one cloth + one clear). These all make maintenance, care and daily use of the vehicle so much easier.

Prius Club San Diego links page

Check under shopping. You may have to do some comparisons for best price.

We will be picking up some hand crafted sheepskin covers this week and also sheepskin console cover. I chose these as they are hand crafted and the flint colour matches the car.

Thanks to all for your input. It's funny that you mentioned the covers coming off the center console easily. I test drove a seaside pearl with ivory and the front lip of the cover on the console was already coming up!! OOOH That's really scary!!

Guess I'll be buying covers for the console too! Now...I'll have to decide on a color.

BTW got a call from dealer this AM who said 7-10 days and I'll be driving mine!

Beware of GT seat covers I got there covers but did not like the material was not that comfortable. So, I got skeepshkin much more softer and comfortable. I was replacing one with the other and the GT covers left a ink scray number on the orignal seats.

IMO: No, you don't need them. What's next, seat cover covers?

#1 and #2 above are both true, but that isn't a conflict.

enjoy your new car, once it gets there!
