I'm picking up my new Prius tomorrow ('06 package #8) and I was wondering what happens when you slip a normal movie dvd into the DVD NAV system drive. I understand the drive isn't readily accesible, but some owners seem to have been able to get to it. I want to be able to watch DVDs from the MFD but I'm not thrilled with the idea of adding an external dvd drive via some sort of video output when there is a dvd-drive already in the car. I did some searching on the forums and couldn't find anything. Any ideas?

not possible. many have tried, to the best of my knowledge all have failed. The only solution is to hack the MFD for video input and put in a stand alone DVD system.

What you propose to do is both illegal and unwise.. It's against the law (I assume in all states, maybe not) to have a DVD movie player or TV capability in the front seat. My guess is that Toyota has configured the MFD to eliminate that possibility.

Yes, it's not wise or legal to be watching movies while driving, however while parked is another story...

At any rate, it's not a built in feature, so Toyota is essentially safe. however, as posted elsewhere on the boards, it is possible to hack one together... Take, for example, the reverse camera... that's a video feed, and it would be possible to splice another feed into it. Combined with the anytime reverse camera mod, and it is definately possible.

I had a dvd player in the dash of my escalade for 3 years and never once did it affect my driving. Not for everyone, but what is?

Lets see... Driving, Talking on cell phone, drinking coffee, yelling at kids, AND watching a DVD. This would be multitasking to 5th power!

I used it to play DVD-A and DTS 5.1 mixes and other music DVDs. 5.1 is brilliant in a car. Also good for DVD commentaries on long trips.

Go here, http://www.coastaletech.com/LOCKPICK_MAIN.htm , Tey are not going to let you use the NAV DVD for a input but will give you an input for a DVD player or you iPod.

Does anyone know what the application implications to the 07 models are?
