The one sold here has at least a small antenna built in that offers some reception. Also, it's got a big enough space to allow you to fit it over the base of your OEM antenna....I'm concerned that those dummies won't fit over the base and then you'd have to remove that too. Finally, you can get the paint to exactly match the Prius from the Priusshop version.

If I had a black 95 honda accord I might go for the dummy, but the ones sold here are very nice, promotes this site, will exactly match your car.

Thanks everyone. I totally overlooked the "dummy" part of it. Looks like I'll get the one from PriusChat accessory shop, since I'm looking for something functional and also aesthetically pleasing.

I can state that reception with the sharkfin I think decreased alot from the stock antenna. I lose a station in my local area which I could get anywhere with the old antenna, I do live in Eastern PA so there are some hills-mtns, I will most likely take mine off and resell it, not happy with it.

Good luck.

[quote] This is my install of the Shark Fin Antenna bought at the PriusChat Shop. Installation was easy and the end result looks perfect. This is what Toyota should have put on the car in the first place. I dont know how bad reception will be because I never use the radio. I always listen to my MP3 player and when I get my PC installed I will be listing to MP3s via the PC. I bought the shark fin antenna purely for the looks. I created this topic just for my reference but feel free to comment.

The new Shark Fin Antenna really enhances the appearance of your car. My Prius is also the 2007 Red and I am thinking about following your stead. Here is the “bite”, how much trouble was it to remove the headliner, or portion of said headliner, and then get it back into its original position with out totally screwing it up. Yes, I tend to be a schose of a klutch at times and when undertaking a task, many times there are costly consequences, because of my klutchness!

The removal of the headliner was very easy. No tools required and took 0 time. All you have to do with the priuschat shop version is unscrew the antenna from the base and atach the sharkfin. Removal of the headliner is not required.

Mine has been on for about a week now. I live in the hills of western New York and from reading the forum posts I did expect signal loss due to my location. Surprisingly, all my US signals are fine, the two I listen to from Toronto are intermitently scratchy but clear up a mile from my home. I love it - it looks great and is no hassle at the car wash.

P.S.
I noticed a big drop in reception. I now only receive the most powerful/largest FM stations in my immediate area. No Big Loss Though... I LOVE MY SIRIUS!!

Yes, I put an S2000 antenna on my Honda Odyssey. Reception is just as good as the original 3 ft whip. However, the S2000 stub won't fit on the Prius, I already checked
[/b]
I'm using one. I replaced the prius OE antenna with a 2003 S2000 antenna. Fit like a glove.

Thanks for everyone's feedback on the sharkfin. I decided to make the change, and here are my results:

whip antenna: all stations came in OK
nothing: one distant station and one local station had trouble (live near a mountain)
sharkfin: one distant station still has trouble, but the local station comes in fine now.

I've not seen this before, so here are pictures of the sharkfin before it was installed.

The coiled black wire allows the little ring at the end to be attached with the included screw to the base of the antenna.
