Friends: 0 | Oh god, great video!! I raced mine against my co-worker's turbo Talon (somewhere over 200hp at the time). I had the lead until he realised what I was doing and then his turbo spooled up.....LOL. It was good for a laugh afterwards, though. |

That's a bit bizarre. The 01 Civic is listed at 8.4 seconds 0-60, Prius at 10. So I guess his Civic must not have been in top shape or he didn't know how to drive it. If you really want to "smoke" somebody, race the Prius with a Civic Hybrid. That car is notoriously slow. Possibly the worst car (at least when it comes to acceleration) I've ever tested. | |

Basically the faster you go the more distance you travel (mph), so basically the 60-75 is just as important as the 0-60. The prius's 0-60 is pretty slow, the 1/4 mile isn't much better, but it does do well on top-end for what it is. That's what I mean by "CVT kick in" I guess somewhere around 50mph the car reaches actual efficiency and actually starts to rev high and move. Right off the line it's REALLY slow which is about 80% of the reason the 1/4 isn't all that good and nor is the 0-60. If it actually could accelerate like that the entire time it would be probably a high 16 second car or so (hence every car I raced in the video was ahead of me for 1/2 the race till the "cvt kicked in") I however have raced a Yaris 2 door 5 speed and it was REALLY close. Not sure who would have won but it was very close. Compared to most any car the prius is slow but for the economy cars in its class (good mpg) people like to compare it to it's usually faster it seems.
