hi nikki

yes shame the thing with your car
its not going good... but lets hope for better time's

i am building a small 2 piece PCD with 1 relay on that will shutoff the charger when one of the packs gets to hot
now i have 2 temp sensors because i only have the OEM pack and 1 addpack.
the total cost for this in parts is about 40 euros or something like 50 dollars

i am connecting the wire's at the moment and its more that i have this finisched before the summer gets here.

i can tell you one thing
there is no use of just 1 addpack to the oem pack with these low temparatures
the current draw is limited to protect the packs and so the ice will run anyway.

2 addpacks is minimum for a BMS+ situation or 1 if you life in a warm climat

Update!

The Zivan NG3 has arrived!

I'll post properly at some point when I've had a chance to look at it properly...

As to the additional packs - I've got two additional packs plus the original, so I hope that will help me greatly. Since the British climate is decidedly warm in these parts most of the time compared to your northern lands I hope it will make some difference!

Okay - here's an update.

I went to the local Battery shop yesterday to get some cabling and came back with a couple of candidates. I've got to try them out and check they're not too thick to use with the 175A anderson connectors I'll be using.

This morning I decided to take a photo of everything ready to go in - minus the car and the batteries (since the batteries are in my garage and I wasn't going to lift them out on my own!)

My initial impressions of the Zivan is that it's HUGE! I didn't quite expect it to be as heavy as it is. I would love to plug it in and get it going, but there's no point yet...

I also have a bit of a mac-based surprise too - but more on that when I get those bits and my car back!

Nikki.

(Happy new year!)

P.S. Can we get this moved to the PHEV mods section? Danny?

I'm glad it's no bigger - otherwise it wouldn't fit where I want to put it!

There's only 2 parts from Hybrid Interfaces - the CanView and BMS +. The third project box is one I'm using for my own adaptor interfaces.

Nikki.

P.S. There's some new code up now for CanView and BMS+ I think.

Folks,

Another quick update!

After a week off work (it's school break here!) I was able to catch up on all my chores plus spend a day or two progressing the conversion.

This afternoon I spent some time trimming back the battery cases (after removing the OEM BMS) - and put on the new battery cables with Anderson connectors on them. This will make it easy for me to connect/disconnect the battery packs and charger.

For fun I also boost charged both spare batteries and all is well. It was the first time I'd used the Zivan!

There's a photo-set on Flickr. It's getting to the point where I can finally envisage driving around in my plug in Prius!

I had better hurry up anyway - I have to exhibit it at the maker faire in three week's time!

Very cool! Can't wait to see it up and running. I'm sure you are already aware, but just make sure when trimming the cases down you don't compromise the parts that keep the battery modules in compression. Without that pressure, the modules will expand and pop like pop-corn during charging as internal pressure rises.

miscrms

the 2 plates holding the battery's and used for the compression are connect with 4 (2 on top and 2 bottom ) steel pipe's

the battery's are only connected to the base plate to hold them down

you can cutt that compleet case away and still have the pressure hold.

Thanks! Yes, I have checked that it doesn't affect the battery compression blocks. I've actually just cut shy of them, so there should be enough metal left to stop the exploding!
