Yes, I have my seat all the way back and it is perfect for legroom for me. I couldn't move further back because I'm already reaching for the steering wheel. I could use about an inch of telescope of the wheel toward me to make the reach more comfortable.

I am 6'5" and am considering a similar mod.

Is there a chance of setting off the airbag in the seat when disconnecting and connecting the wiring to the seat?

Do you disconnect the battery before doing this? If so, what needs to be reset after the battery disconnect?

Yes, you must disconnect the 12v battery before removing the seat. You should wait a few minutes before starting to work anywhere near the airbags.

After reconnecting the battery, you have to reset the power window auto stop feature - see instructions below

Nortnarg,

Also, when doing work on your seats, the Seat Assembly Instructions may be useful:

http://jaygroh.dreamhost.com/prius/P...20-%20Seat.pdf

Also, besides Brett's work, you might want to check out nyprius' work:

The work took about three hours and cost $300
[Boo's Comment: That's for both front seats!] They did an excellent job. I am very happy with the mod."

And here are the 3 pictures nyprius posted:

As I understand it, nyprius' modification is as strong as the original because (1) the seat rails are extended by welding an extension piece in the front and the pedestals are reattached to a new location on the seat rails by welding, and welding is as strong as the steel itself, and (2) the original pedestals are placed back in their original locations on the floor.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the process of nyprius' modification. But if you have any questions about or want more pictures of nyprius' modification, I'd suggest that you PM him. He's a nice guy and a good man. I'm pretty sure he'll be glad to help.

Wait at least 90 seconds when disconnecting auxiliary battery before disconnecting leads under the seat, (I think there's a battery backup for seat airbag). I usually take a break to be sure.

Reconnect battery at end of project. When powering up car, press 'power' button once, this will leave dash lights on, press it again and should be good to go.

-----------------------------

Consider whether you'd want to do it to your original seat or a used one.

Feel free to PM me with questions also.

Thank you Boo, Dogfriend and Cycledrum.

Great information and links. I am starting a file of my own to reference later. I am not ready to start my own mod yet, but one of these days I will!
With help like this, How could I go wrong?

Follow up. Note - steering tilt not all way down in pics. Reach a little better with tilt full down.

All the way back - equivalent to 4 extra clicks. Reach to steering wheel a bit too far.

1 click forward - Best for me.

2 clicks forward - Legroom starts getting tight, especially right foot on brake pedal.

4 clicks forward or original position all way back. Eeeek.

Overall greatly improved. As good as the 2010 Prius? No way. I would do this mod again. Totally worth the time and money

** Edit - I don't use this cushion anymore and would not recommend it **

Custom seat cushion.

3-way attack for more comfort in the seat -

* remounted back for legroom
* Edit - I don't use this anymore >> custom seat cushion for thigh support
* seat cover with bottom cut-off to protect seatback and get bit closer to steering wheel.
