Driver's Seat Remount at Home - 2 5/8" Back

Some follow up. Did a coastal mountain pass from Los Gatos to Scotts Valley. Using 3 clicks back from stock max position. The seat position / legroom is remarkably better than stock seat mounting. I've moved seatback 2 clicks forward and reach to steering wheel is really not bad at all.

On the way home, stopped at Toyota, jumped in 2010 for comparison. The new Prius seating is better than mine. The telescopic steering wheel, height adjuster and better positioned brake pedal improve ergos a lot.

In the 2010, it's like I'm more 'in the car or seat' whereas on the 2009 with my mod, I'm a more 'on the seat'.

If I can pick up 24 more HP, I'll be set

Curious, now that you've mounted your seat 2 5/8" further back, and have sat in the 2010 Prius, are you able to give a good seat of the pants estimate of how much further back the 2010 Prius goes than the stock Gen II Prius?

Yes. The 2010 driver's seat goes about 2 1/2" farther back than a stock Gen2 Prius seat. And, the 2010 seat / steering reach is effectively much better than a remounted Gen2 seat for a very tall person -

* 2010 height adjuster allows more headroom, so can sit low and bring seatback forward for better reach to steering. Plus, you get 1.5" steering wheel telescope in the 2010.

-- Also measured 41" maximum brake to back of seat bottom in 04 - 09 Prius. Little over 43.5" in 2010 with height adjust full down. 2.5" doesn't sound like much, but equates to about 4 extra clicks in a Gen2, something many would like to have.

* In 2010, the gas and brake pedal sure seem to have more even reach to them. IOW, adjust for good reach to gas, move to brake and reach feels the same. Brake pedal is set closer than gas in Gen2.

This seat remount is still a good mod and worth it. Hats off to the 2010 though. It is improved in many ways.

2.5 inches was my final estimate too after sitting in the 2010 for the third time.

I knew that there was no way that the 2010 only went 1" further back than the Gen II (a measurement that was posted once in this forum).

Enjoy your 2009. It's a great car. And being the last model year of the Gen II, it just might be the most reliable car made.

The 2010 has improvements for sure. But even those improvements plus the very generous Prius Priority Pre-Order discount offered to me, were not enough for me to get the 2010 when I had a perfectly good 2007 with only 6500 miles on it.

I hear ya. No reason to strain for a 2010 which would just set me back. Better to save money.

This is 'splitting hairs', but ...

I used to recline my seatback too much before the modification just to gain some headroom. After the mod, I'm using 3 extra clicks back, so I picked up some headroom since the seat rails have some tilt.

3 week follow up -

The front extension braces are holding up fine even though they measure between 5/32 and 3/16" thickness (11/64" , forgot that guage # of steel).

If I had it to do over, I might use 1/4" thick steel for the front braces. If they bent, I'd redo it all over if necessary.

About the steering wheel ...

I hold the wheel quite a bit at 6 o'clock, one hand, palm down, but go for another grip depending on traffic.

I'll take the extra legroom with extra reach to the wheel 24/7/365

It's looks like the brackets can easily be removed if someone wants to sell or trade-in their car, so that is a good thing.

I can vouch that sliding a Gen2 Prius seat back 3+ clicks extra for a person with long legs is so much better than stock seating. And like you say, plan to move the seatback more upright to keep reach to steering wheel reasonable.

Wish I'd seen your brackets a couple months ago. I looked all over before doing the mod.
