Friends: 3 | I'd just recommend dropping in a bottle of Techron at every oil change to keep your gas system clean. I've done that with the last couple cars I owned. Didn't notice much difference in economy - it's more of a preventative maintenance thing. Don't expect a well-maintained Prius to be capable of getting much better fuel economy than it already does. The best you can do is maintain it well. |

Friends: 2 | From their website... "Mileage Maxx™ contains a powerful new detergent formulated to clean fuel pumps, injectors, and fuel lines. Beyond it's cleaning agents, this "All In One" fuel treatment lowers fuel surface tension, resulting in enhanced combustion and a more complete fuel burn. Proven to increase fuel economy by up to 20% and reduce toxic emissions by 30% to 50%! Top oil lubricating properties protect fuel injectors & pumps from both mechanical and chemical wear, while rust and corrosion inhibitors help to protect storage tanks, on-board fuel tanks, fuel lines, and engine components. Mileage Maxx™ Mileage Booster is a "green" product that helps operators comply with clean air laws and reduce emissions by promoting a cleaner fuel burn to reduce smoking, soot, and vapor exhaust. The end result is increased fuel economy and performance, lower maintenance costs, and reduced harmful toxic exhaust emissions. "Detergents do nothing more then clean a dirty system and dilutes your gas. And how it creates a more complete fuel burn, that is unknown. Increase fuel economy...I don't think so. Less fuel = less power. Better fuel economy for an old car who has been abused, yes, but only up to the stock factory specs for that car/truck and nothing beyond. Reduce emissions, yes and no because you are diluting the gas. Harmful to your engine if it contains water or chemicals what will become/form water when it is ignited in the combustion camber. Can cause rust, etc. |

Wow, maybe all the people who have been using water injection in their high performance turbo engines to use more aggressive timings with less detonation all these years are completely wrong. Someone should tell them. Water injection (engines) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Water/alcohol injection is something I would not touch. And I have a tuned turbo car(92 JDM MR2 Turbo, Super White like my Prius). Tuned by the wrong guy and you have a big big mess on your hands. And besides, the stuff doesn't kick in until you are really boosting. The people with these kits installed do not run their system 99% of the time. It only kicks in when they are almost or at WOT. If you put that stuff on an normal car, you are going to kill the motor. I have heard many benefits and many many negative side effects from water/alc injection. I personally would opt out. Way to risky for me. I'm not rich enough to be able to replace a motor whenever.

Friends: 2 | p.s. I just checked out the cite you posted(wiki). Even they list the ill effects of water/alc injection. "Fuel economy can be improved with water injection, although the effect on most engines with no other modification, like leaning out the mixture, appears to be rather limited or even negligible in some cases. Some degree of control over the water injection is important. It needs to be injected only when the engine is heavily loaded and the throttle is wide open. Otherwise injecting water may simply drown the engine and cause it to quit." |

Friends: 2 | Well if you go over to their website, the testimonies are bogus. No real data to support their claims. Other products of this sort have all been proven to be bogus. To me, if you are a logical person, 1 + 1 = 2. In this case,1(no data, bogus testimonies) + 1(other products of this type have been busted) = 2, this product can/should be ... "snake oil" /crap. |

![]() As for fuel additves that give you better gas milage they are all a scam. Even the ones that work by cleaing out your fuel system usually don't pencil out when you calculate fuel savings vs. the cost of the system (unloess used rarely as part of a maintenance program). I've also never seen any that increase HP or 1/4mile performance unless additional tuning was done or the vehicle was in need of maintenance anyway.
