Friends: 6 | There was some discussion recently in a CleanMPG thread on highway driving about how Can-View reports ignition timing. Evan and I both reported a difference between what we were seeing on CV versus how others saw it reported on ScanGauge and an Autoenginuity scan tool. In particular, there was an offset of 14° -- e.g., in ICE-off conditions SG was reporting 5° BTDC, whereas CV reported it as 19°. In a subsequent e-mail dialog I had with Norm he verified the 14° offset. As to why, he recalled some debate early on about whether there was a difference due to the Atkinson cycle engine (and a subsequent change to CV), but he couldn't remember the details of the discussion nor exactly why he decided to calculate it this way. So after I raised the issue, he had Frank Hudon verify it for the Prius by checking actual timing with a timing light. Here is Norm's subsequent response: "Frank's tests showed his CAN-view displaying 12 degrees out compared to his pro timing light, so given the resolution of a white paint mark on a shaft, that probably means it is 14 degrees out. SO: I will re-write all the code versions for CAN-views present and past to match scan-gauge, which means going back to what I had 2 years ago. Neither Frank nor I can now remember what triggered the change in the first place, although it must have been input from customers because I wouldn't have changed what I'd had working for 6 months without some serious requests. But I guess thats history now (unless some customer notices and brings up whatever that old reason was). These changes I hope will get done and posted in the next 24 hours." That was from two days ago, so presumably the updates are available now. |

With the Audio button on the bezel only: If I hit audio to get to that screen that works fine. In the past I could hit the audio button again and it would return to the CAN-View screen (default). But now it goes to a "frozen" NAV screen...IOW none of the buttons work. To get back to CAN-View I have to hit the INFO button twice. Is that just me or is it a bug in the latest software update? | |

Friends: 0 | as a quick test reload the last update and see if it returns if it does then that will give Norm more info to go on. Ours still works fine since the last flash. |

Friends: 0 | are there replacement cables for the canview? mine seem to cut itself (the tiny cable that sticks in the main relay?) and now my canview only shows a frozen state when its first turned on. Although funny as it sounds going back to the energy display helped me coast better because of the no arrows state. |

Friends: 0 | It's great that Norm's back. I'm having a problem with the latest update and talked to Norm about it some months back. It turns out that Norm and I and one other person are the only ones using the Pioneer Nav system. When he updated to the trip function, knowing this, he wasn't too worried about the Nav. Since memory was limited it is causing problems now in my system. Does anyone have a copy of the code just prior to the Trip update?? Arnie |
