So I keep thinking about adding a CAN-view to my non-NAV 05 Prius because I want a backup camera. Would this work?
1) CAN-View version 3 $400
2) GrandTec GVC-1000 video->VGA converter $75
3) Backup camera from eBay $100

Would the CAN-View v3 work with the video->VGA converter (which I believe is designed to basically turn your computer monitor into a TV)?

Is there any other option that would be cheaper? $600 seems pretty steep...

Thanks!

This seems like a better deal ($175):

No need for a video adapter, so it would save you $300. No idea if they are shipping, yet, or not.

They also sell the Viewtech video adapter for $189:

Technically I'm on vacation but here goes anyway:
Buying a CAN-view just to get the external video input for a camera converter, plus the converter, plus the camera IS pretty steep, I agree. I designed CAN-view primarily as an information display, which after evolving a bit just happens to have an external video input you can plug the UK camera converter into (Not the Grandtec incidentally, thats a TV to VGA converter and the Prius is not VGA)

Thats a bit like buying a plasma TV just to get the audio channel.

Maybe you should look at Coastal's new Unlock hardware which is intended primarily for video/audio.

It says it works on all Prius with and without factory NAV and at $175 doesn't need a converter
Technically that may be more appropriate for what you want.
