Default Newbie here, dead guage cluster with simple question

The instrument cluster went out on my '07, well not completely but most of it is lighting up. My question is if I simply order another cluster used on ebay will the mileage remain the same. I see some there with like 100k miles and mine only have 45k. I'm thinking the mileage is saved in the ECM and not the cluster. Anyone ever done this? I dont want to take it to the dealer and have them hack up my dash so I'd like to do it myself as I'm a mechanic to.

The odometer reading is stored within the instrument panel ECU. So if you change the cluster the odometer reading will become whatever the new cluster has.

If you buy a new cluster from the dealer it is special ordered so that the new part has the odometer reading from your old cluster.

Are you sure something didn't slide down the dash and is covering part of the display area. The speedometer is not a direct display; you're looking at a mirror reflecting a projected image.

thank you very much, i'm guessing you tried this or know someone who has. I tried to talk with a toyota tech but they were too busy.
