Default TOYOTA RECALLS 3.8 MILLION VEHICLES FOR UNINTENDED ACCELERATION (due to mats!)

Don't know if you have already read this on the Forum or on the internet some place, but read today from Autobeat Daily about this recall from Toyota - so much for the accelerators deciding on their own to accelerate full gas by themselves....my new Prius came with rubber mats, securely fastened to the floor with hooks.

TOYOTA RECALLS 3.8 MILLION VEHICLES FOR UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. Toyota Motor Corp. will recall about 3.8 million Toyota and Lexus brand vehi cles-its largest-ever U.S. safety recall-to fix floormats that could jam the throttle in the full open position.
The recall involves Prius hybrid sedans from the 2004-2009 model years, 2005-2010 Avalon large sedans and Tacoma compact pickup trucks, 2006-2010 Lexus IS 250 and IS 350 compact luxury cars and 2007-2010 Camry and Lexus ES 350 midsize sedans and Tundra fullsize pickups.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued an "urgent" warning to owners of the affected vehi cles to immediately remove driver side floor mats and not replace them with other mats. NHTSA has confirmed five fatalities linked to the issue.
The agency says the problem appears to be the result of the interrelated effects of unsecured mats, the accel erator pedal configuration and the complexity of shutting off the engine of vehicles with keyless ignition. Toyota is in the process of filing a formal recall notice and has not yet identified the remedy. In September 2007, the company recalled 55,000 Camry and Lexus ES 350 sedans from the 2007-2008 model years to replace optional all-weather floor mats that could jam the throttle pedal.
The Toyota acceleration problems appear unlike previ ous claims of unintended acceleration in dozens of models over several decades. In those cases, experts usually attributed the phenomenon to drivers mistakenly pressing the accelerator instead of the brake.

An article about it here:

There is an existing thread to discuss this recall.
Toyota to recall 3.8 million vehicles

Realizing that people will be searching the database for references, I feel it is worthwhile to keep multiple threads available in the hopes of increasing the search results. However, it might be best to refer to the already-in-progress discussion on the other thread.

I wonder how many new threads will be created on this until posters "get a clue"!
