Default Lamest Mod Ever?

I have a 2010 III. I don't really feel the need for fog lights but hate the gray inserts. They just scream CHEAP. Would it be possible to just have the inserts painted to match the car and be done with it. It would, at the least, stop the eye from being drawn directly to the gray plastic when looking at the front of the car.

I don't see why not. Any number of paint places can match the factory color code, I've seen some online that offer spray paint cans of it. Get one of those, make sure they're clean, mask them off and go for it.

If you plan on doing that, make sure you use a primer that is specifically designed to be used on plastic first. As always, prep is more important then the actual spraying.

Someone on here did it and posted pics a while back.

I think they had a black Prius and painted them gloss black.

I'll try and find the pics.......

Tried for a bit to find em' and couldn't... But it didn't look too bad for a quick and cheap fix.

Covering over the entire hole would look even better.

If you got matching paint and clearcoat it would look "OK." Not fantastic, and it still screams that you don't have a particular option on the car. You could always get the cheapest compatible foglight kit off of eBay and get a set of the inserts. You could install the foglights on the car, but not bother with wiring them up. The installation part is very, very easy and takes about 5 minutes per side.

What color is your car? I have BP and was thinking about painting the inserts black. But than I went with the fog light option ($140 in parts). Should be able to install those this weekend.

I like that. Even without replacing the inserts (just painted black).

I too have been thinking about the fog lights for months, and thought about a Faux look.
Like a vinyl bumper sticker cut out, silk screened to look like a fog light.
Mostly white with some grey to look like a reflection.
OR
Aluminum Foil/Mylar cut out with some spray adhesive on it.
It's worth a try!
