I am not sure what the app will do, but I have my own top 3 features I hope are included:

1) Includes an "Impatient" button which will, when pushed, trigger a traffic light change for those times you are running late for work because of that late night out.

2) Includes a "Make my day" button which directly communicates to the main Prius commuter, instructing it to send out a flashing message running across the small lower hatch back window repeatedly reading: "Back Away Sucker” when it detects a vehicle is following too close. After displaying this message 3 times without results, it will automatically change the message display to a waving bird which will have an uncanny resemblance to a one finger wave.

3) Includes a “Sympathetic” button which allows you to quickly change the odometer display and other important trip information temporarily to provide evidence which will support the lame excuse you are giving your significant other (or mother) on why you are late getting home from work again.

I think it is going to be: a.) completely amazing and rich with features (allowing you to unlock the doors with your phone, track mpg data, have an service reminder built in...) or b.) be completely useless and be nothing more than something that existing apps already do better. Just my $.02. I hope we find out soon.

Our cars don't have any wireless networking capability, so unless it has a hard wired cable to the OBDII port it has to be option B - completely useless.

Should I buy an iPhone already to use this 'app'?

I have done some googling on it and found nothing that looks like a real useful app. I found a lot of commercial news items telling the world that there is an iPhone web app that shows pictures of a prius.

I think this thread can be closed now. Now Iphone app from Toyota.

Do not buy an iPhone just for the Prius app. The Prius app does absolutely nothing. It is nothing but an advertisement for the Prius.
