Default Help with Random button using home made MP3 data cds

Hello all!

We just got a 2010 III with Nav and have been making our own MP3 CDs using Win XP. The CDs sound good, but I can't seem to get the Random button to work for more than one time. What I mean is pushing the Random button makes the system jump to a random song, but the rest of the disc is played sequentially by file name. The only way to randomize the next song is to turn off the random feature and turn it on again.

Has anyone else gotten different results? And if so, did you use different software or procedures in making your CDs? Thanks for your help.

This is our first Prius and looking forward to getting great mileage and enjoying this informative board. Take care.

mine which is package 2, plays random songs only when previous song is finished playing. if i want to skip a song, it'll be play the next song in line.

also i have to hold the random button for a second or two to keep it in random. maybe you could try that.

Here's what the owner's manual says about this feature for MP3s:

“RAND”: Use it for automatic and random
selection of the folder or the disc which you
are currently listening to.
Playing the files in one folder in random
order —

Touch “RAND” briefly while the disc is
playing. “RAND” appears on the screen.
The system selects a file in the folder you
are currently listening to. To cancel it,
touch “RAND” once again.
Playing the files in all the folders on one
disc in random order —

Touch “RAND” for longer than a second
while the disc is playing. “FLD.RAND” appears
on the screen. The system selects
a file in all the folders. To cancel it, touch
“RAND” once again.

If you have your tracks organized into folders/albums, it should work by pressing briefly. If you just have a bunch of tracks (not in folders), then you probably have to press for longer than a second to randomly play the entire CD.

Interesting. The G2 doesn't allow you to select Random across folders. Must be an enhancement.

Wonder if there's a firmware upgrade we G2 owners could get for this feature. It's my biggest gripe about playing MP3 CDs in the Prius.
