Default USB issues

So I just got my new Prius IV this Sunday and I was lucky enough to get the Safety Connect and USB and I was wondering if anyone has the USB plug and can help me out with a few things.

Well I will just list the most important and that is the issues with my iPhone. When I connect the iPhone I get a message on my screen saying that it's not compatible and after a few minutes I get a message on my Nav screen saying it's not working properly. Is this common with iPhones?

I have read different things about this, and since I dont have an Iphone yet. (I will soon). I am not sure what the answer is. I read something about a firmware update that Toyota has to do, but not sure if that is correct. Do some searches, and you may get more answers.

Same issue here. My iPhone says that, when I plug it into the USB port via the apple USB connector, that it doesn't recognize whatever my car is as a compatible device.

FWIW, I have the 9.1 Nav software and the latest Apple 3GS software.

The documentation that comes with the car regarding USB/Safety Connect indicates iPhones are not compatible.

Unhappy Re: USB issues

I am also having problems with the USB connectivity. I tried my iPhone and had issues which I mentioned in a different thread and won't repeat here. So earlier today, I tried attaching my iPod via USB and my music would not load on the NAV screen. Instead, my iPod said "Do Not Disconnect" and looked like it was trying to sync (as if it were attached to iTunes). It is an older model iPod (circa 2004) so that might be an issue, but I hope there is a way to get it to work.

iphones are definitely compatible, if not, you might need to contact your dealer.

this is another post of the similar issue Will an iPhone work with the 2010 USB interface?

I have a prius iv as well and apparantly for my situation, the problem was that BT connection had caused USB to show "device not compatible" even though it played a day before. When I deleted pairing and paired BT again (both phone and music through iphone) everything works fine again, and music plays either way.

pri-serious,

Snappero is correct. Page 7 of the USB Interface Owner's Manual says this:

Non-Compatible models:
(a) iPhone, iPod min, iPod shuffle
(b) iPod photo and 4th generation and earlier models of iPod are nto compatible with this system.

It does list a whole bunch of different iPods as being compatible. So, I have a hunch this is why we all get that "incompatible device" message when we try to USB ours in. I sure hope the USB port is compatible for charging purposes and we're not damaging our iPhones by using it for such???

This kind of sucks, bigtime. You'd think Toyota would remedy this situation immediately with some kind of a software of firmware fix.

Hmmm...that is strange, because it works just fine with my Prius IV

That message is more for precautionary than actual error message. It's more like saying that Apple has never tested it for the iPhone, and Apple will not answer any customer support call due to the usage with this device.

I have the IV (with the Safety Connect thingy) and iPhone 3GS, and the USB works although I don't use it now because of the stupid control.

Hi all. My first post on these forums.

We just picked up our 2010 Prius today -- IV, solar roof -- and I tried to use my iPod shuffle with the USB and it wouldn't recognize. Found this thread while searching for answers. Haven't tried USB with my iphone, or playing music, but the bluetooth successfully connected, pulled contacts, etc.

Kind of a shame if it doesn't recognize the shuffle ever -- but it does seem to charge it.
