Default Shark Fin?

Has anyone tried replacing the standard antenna with a shark fin? Do you think it would help or hurt radio reception?

Reception will be reduced in fringe areas.

I have, to be able to use a roof rack.

It looks cooler, and yes it will reduce radio reception....but why worry?

You have a 6-CD changer that reads MP3 files, and a AUX port for any MP3 player.
The only time I listen to the radio is for traffic/weather in the morning.

Hint: Audio Books !

There are limited people who have put on sharkfins - all claim reduced signal. I don't think anyone has tried a high end antenna (like a real shark BMW) - others have tried older genII Prius with similar poor results.

This is probably the 3rd or 4th most asked question....

How about doing a "SEARCH" in "Posts", not "Threads" and see the hundreds of thoughts on this topic.......

Basic RF rule of thumb, "The more signal you want, the more antenna you need"!!!

You will get diminished reception in fringe areas!

Correct - and there are few posts related to the Gen III 2010 - so a simple search will get you very little info pertaining to this message board (2010 Prius). This is the 2010 Prius message board for Audio (???)...

Quick question then--where did you get the shark fin? Dealer or Internet? If it's the latter case, do you have any websites to suggest?

What attitude, how hard is it to click "Search" type in "Sharkfin", select "In Posts" and see what you get.

You managed to click your way here... you were 3 additional clicks away from an answer!

I just did the seach it to verify it, I found 20 pages of posts related to "Sharkfin" A great percentage of the posts were the answer to this exact question!!!! Also found, installation info, price, and where to buy!!

Don't know where markderail got his, but I think the lowest price place to get it is from the PriusChat Store.

Don't know if it's the same price for shipping to Canada (it should be though ... Visual Garage, the only company that makes it, is a Canadian company).
