No, synthetic would be higher, I bet. For all I know, it could be a different oil filter as well.

Some dealers like mine offer free oil changes--two per year. And they send out coupons for other services. Some great dealers out there. You just have to find them.

Received a "welcome to the family" SET mailing today.

Included was a coupon from my dealer for the 5000 mile service.

Replace engine oil and filter
Rotate tires
Fill fluids to proper levels
up to 6 point inspection (didn't this used to be 16 points?)
Visually inspect brake linings/drums and brake pads/discs

$39.99

No mention of type of oil but mailing was specific to Prius.

Our oil and filters are 'Free for Life'.....if the vehicle requires 5W-20!!! The cost is Zero.

Now that the new 2010 PRius and 2010 Camry non-hybrid both require 0W-20 we will be charging a premium for the differential between normal oil and synthetic oil. We aren't certain yet about the upcharge but I'm guessing it's going to be ~$45-$50.

So, oil change twice a year at least, with mandated synthetic 0W-20, $100 a year.

I checked with my dealer, Lums Toyota, Warrenton,Oregon. The parts manager stated he was not even aware that the 2010 Prius required O X 20 weight motor oil. That they had none of that weight oil in stock.

He stated he would have to order a few cases.

I asked him if they had any non-synthetic motor oil in the required 0 X 20 weight. No was his reply, 5 X 20 , is all they had.

Now you can be a hero twice and maybe he'll give you a break on service since you're saving his azz. Tell him that all the 2010 I4 Camry's also require 0W-20.

If he's putting 5W-20 into the new Camry's he's going to be causing a mountain of crap for his store.
