My dealership included $9.99 oil changes as long as I own the vehicle. I'm sure they will come up with extra charges.

I changed my oil and filter today at home. Cost $8 total, and I use the good synthetic stuff. I don't know exactly how much time it took, but I was finished by the time my wife went and picked up the kids from school 5 miles away.

Done right
Done quickly
Done cheaply

Perhaps you are already setup to do a DIY for a 2010, too, but remember this thread was inquiring about the cost of the dealer-serviced 5,000-mile oil change (synthetic) on a GenIII.

To do this yourself you'll need the right ramps (long enough to deal with the low ground clearance), the right tools (this is a cartridge filter), and good instructions (I still think I'd get splashed!). I also don't know that I could find 0W-20 (five quarts) and the filter for anywhere close to your $8! Well done!

For many, the best option may be buying the oil/filter and paying the dealer to change it. The local Toyota dealer will do this for $14. If you look for a sale/rebate, you can find Mobil 1 for $5/quart (buy 15 quarts). So that's $25 + ~$14 + filter (~$6). With the dealer supplying the oil, it's $65...

Amazing. Absolutely amazing.

I love how Toyota advertises "Have your service performed at a Toyota service department and know that your car us being handled by the Toyota experts."

I've had 10 oil changes performed at a Toyota dealer (I got a cheap deal on the pre-paid maintenance program) and out of those 10 oil changes, my oil was severely overfilled 4 times. And on another time, they didn't rotate the tires at all even though they say they did. I mark my tires beforehand -- you should too...you might be surprised!

And now this...

Walmart sells 5 qt containers of Pennzoil Platinum synthetic for $20. I'm pretty sure I saw 0W-20 on the shelf too. Pennzoil currently offers a $15 rebate on a 5 qt. purchase, making hte price about $1/qt.

I subscribe to a consumer search tool through fatwallet.com that emails me when oil is on sale, and then I stock up as allowed. Between inexpensive oil and inexpensive clothes bought on 'red tag' days at Old Navy, I keep my maintenance costs quite reasonable.

Some of these numbers are unbelievable!! Remember its only 4 qts of oil.

"We aren't certain yet about the upcharge but I'm guessing it's going to be ~$45-$50"

Nothing like $10+ a quart for 0W-20, such a deal!
