Toyota knows what they're doing. As far as 64mm cap style oil filter wrenches, I think my liquid cooled JD rider uses the same size. The JD filter was on so tight from the factory I had wrap one layer of a paper towel over the end of the filter and then put the cap wrench on to keep it from slipping. Are these cap style tools measured across two inside parallel flats? | |

Friends: 0 | I went to a Toyota dealer close to work today at lunch. I was picking up an oil filter and oil filter wrench. I know I could get them cheaper on-line but this was quick and easy, or so I thought. I had the part numbers but when the counter guy asked me what I needed I told him an oil filter and wrench for a 2010 Prius. He took off to the back before I could give him the numbers so I thought he knew what he was doing. He brought a can type filter up front and tried a few filter wrenches to see which fit. When I told him the filter is a cartridge type he said, "Oh no, this is what they all use." When I insisted the 2010 is different, he went to talk to a tech about it. While he was away I picked the TOY640 wrench off the display and laid it on the counter. He finally returned and had the correct filter, but now he told me I didn't need the wrench as there was a socket wrench type hole in the cartridge housing. I insisted again that the wrench was needed and he left to talk to the tech. He returned with a used wrench to compare to the one I had got and said, "Yeah, that's it." I guess now he's the expert :-) I'm glad I have decided to do my own oil changes.

Friends: 0 | At least they sold it to you. My dealership swore Toyota specifically forbade them from selling tools to consumers |

Friends: 0 | As a heads-up, the eBay seller that folks have been using has raised his price from $6.95 to $9.95. Shipping is still $4.95. Also note that you have to look around for the $9.95 price. He also has the same item listed for $17.95... Since I'm doing all of my own oil changes, I just picked one up at the $9.95 price. Bryan |

Friends: 0 | First trip to my dealership went about the same way, wrong filter and can't sell tools to customer? Had to argue about the filter and just gave up on the cap wrench, I used amazon for that. Really sad situation! |
