My wife just took in her 2010 Prius II for her routine Manufacturer advised 5,000 mile service. This includes oil change, filters, tire rotation, tire pressure, general look over the car (and anything else I'm missing. It's in the manual).

My wife paid $98. $101 after taxes.

This seems insane (though expected). Don't tell me to do my own oil because I won't for several reasons.

What is everyone else paying for the entire 5,000 service from Toyota...or even better from a local garage??

I've got a Gen II, so I'm not using full synth oil.

I take it to a local Goodyear tire place, with permanently available coupon, pay about $20 for all the same service listed on the maintenance schedule. I don't get a Toyota stamp, but they do check off everything and give it a Goodyear stamp.

I do bring in genuine Toyota oil filters, as those are pretty top-notch and not very pricey at all (pick them up at the dealer). Also, I have to specify to them not to put in 4 quarts, but 3 and maybe a little bit more.

The $20 is for the oil change only. You didn't include the price of the filters either. The tire rotation price isn't part of the $20 now is it? Let me know what the completed invoice to you is at the end of the day for the entire service I mentioned above. (By the way you have to tell them to rotate your tires or they won't do it). I used Goodyear in Viriginia for a long time. They do good work actually. Prices are very fair too.

Thanks for posting. Eager to know how much more I'm paying Toyota.

One of the Northern Calif Bay Area dealer is charging $129.95 for min 5K service and $149.95 for Preferred 5K service. I will look around since I only have 1K and my first service was free provided by my dealer when I brought my Prius.

I really hope my dealer doesn’t charge the absurd tag of $ 100 or anything close to that every 5K miles. I used to pay $ 28 (that's right, I repeat $28) for oil, filter change, and tire rotation for my previous CR-V in my Honda dealer (including car wash, inspection of fluids, tire pressure, tire thread, brake discs, etc...). The same service for my Odyssey in the same dealer is extra $3, so $31. That includes taxes!

So, this is my first Toyota and I am so spoiled by the low cost of Honda maintenance!!!

When I was debating if I should get a Jetta TDI or a Prius here in this forum, I can't forget how many times people here were saying that despite of the fact VW pays for all maintenance up to 30K miles in the Jetta, the Prius maintenance was still going to cost a lot less in a long term. I hope the several ones who stressed that out here were not talking garbage…. or maybe they were!

The price sounds about right for what others have said in other threads. There has been talk about the first oil change being pushed back to 10,000 miles in a memo from Toyota Corporate. That being the case, I would have a problem with them doing the oil change now more than the $100 cost.

I paid $69 for that service but then found out they did not use synthetic 0W20. We're working through that.

I would have a serious problem with a 10,000 mile oil change on the original factory break in fill.

Here's what my dealer sent me about the cost: (in Iowa)

"The oil and filter change currently is approx $65.00 and the tire rotation is $19.95, both plus tax. The oil will soon be available in bulk quantities and this should bring the price down some..."

I figure, with tax (6% here), it would be close to $90.00. I'm a long way from needing my 1st service, but if bulk oil brings the price down a bit and IF (and it's a BIG "if") the change to 10,000 miles goes through, then it will reduce the cost significantly.

I'll still get an early oil change done regardless of whether the 10,000 mile change happens because of the initial break-in period.

I have been paying 59.99 for the minor maint package in the San Diego area for sometime now. That includes the oil, filter change, tire rotation, check tire pressure, plus 21 checks on the Prius. Plus a free car wash that I told them don't wash the car. I wash my Prius using the No Rinse car wash from autogeek.com.
