Friends: 0 | I have a new 2010 prius and have been noticing a several second delay when shifting. It seemed like only when shifting into reverse, but now it's also drive. Anyone have this problem in the Gen III? Anyone know of reliable delaer service in Wetschester county, NY? Thanks... Techcar |

Friends: 23 | Hi TechCar. Due to the Variable Transmission, the Prius does not shift. Ever. You are surely encountering something that you think is unusual but it can't be due to gear shifting. Can you explain what it is you are encountering and hopefully we can help you determine the actual root cause. |

Friends: 10 | I'm going to second this: the Prius does not and cannot shift. It has no transmission in the normal sense. Perhaps you can explain what you are experiencing. Tom |

Friends: 9 | If by shifting you mean at the point when the wheels begin to move in reverse or drive, I have never experienced a delay in my 2010 nor my 2006. I don't think I ever heard anyone complain of this for that matter. When you move the shift lever it is just sending a signal to the computer which tells the cvt to go forward reverse etc. |

Friends: 2 | There are two possibilities that come to mind: 1) As the car accelerates forward, and as the throttle is lifted to mediate speed, the engine sounds as though it is shifting, and that shifting pattern depends on when and how much you modulate the throttle, and could be giving you the illusion of delayed shifting. But as the others have stated, there is NO shifting taking place. 2) If you have the power set to ECO, the relative delayed throttle response could be mimicing delayed shifting. Friends: 0 | Make sure you're pressing the brake first before you shift the car into gear. I'm betting you're shifting first and then pressing the brake, and that's what's causing the delay. |

Friends: 0 | Several times, when I am in a hurry, after I pushed the Start button and shift into reverse, nothing happen. It seems that the car is still in Park and I have to shift it to reverse again. I think this is what happen to techcar. There may be a short delay but not several seconds for the ready light to be on. |

Friends: 0 | What I meant by "shifting" is just the act of changing from park to reverse or drive. I know it's electronic, but not uncommonly there is a delay before the car would move backwards or forwards after placing it into reverse or drive. This is in the "eco" setting as someone had mentioned. |

Friends: 0 | To try to clarify, when you're at a stop with your foot on the brake and then switch into reverse from drive, it takes a few seconds before you are able to move in that direction. More in reverse than drive, but also in drive. Thanks...... |

Friends: 1 | I have not noticed this delay at all in my 2010 either. When I shift into "R" or "D" I do hold the shift lever there for a second. Maybe your just quick hitting it and there is some sort of delay. Sorry I can't shed more light on it, but I shift and hold a second, so maybe that's why I don't notice anything. |
