I heard of a few friend's friend die from driving a Miata

I'm happy that it is aluminum. Thank you Toyota.

MGBs are like Corvairs, only their owners can seriously enjoy them. As we approach 2010, I can't believe people are still hanging onto their old 1950s car given they are not safe or fast. I guess it's cool if you are into that kind of stuff.

I have driven them, my Prius can lap faster than a regular V6 MGB at the track (which I did do). If you like those cars, that's fine. Let's not go so far as to say how great they are...

I didn't think I'd have to defend my second child here, I'm just miffed at the hood of my car that has 2 dents within 3 months of ownership. I had my Caddy with a dent-free steel hood for 146k miles.

Just trying to grieve a little. Thanks for the shoulder to cry on.

Living where salt is used on the roads in the winter, I'm grateful for the aluminum hood and of course the weight reduction is nice. I have received two paint dings on it that are only a quarter of an inch apart. No dent in the metal and I don't know when it occurred as I was never startled by the loud sound of a rock hitting the hood. It could have been intentional (vandalism) but I don't think it was.

Both the hood AND the hatch are made of aluminum. This can be verified in this PDF intended for training of emergency crews in proper handling of the Gen III provided by Toyota. Look on page 7:

Never really worried about the WV road salt, but I guess it also helps with the Florida ocean salt mist while not much help with coconuts falling from the trees in the yard.

Do Prius in the U.K. have an aluminum hood, or do they come with an aluminium bonnet?

Good for me, since I make fiberglass reproductions, but bad for those who have to buy them.

Fast forward 40+ years... who's idea was it to put aluminum hoods on the Prius???? Did anyone do their homework?

I've found my second mini dent/chip on my hood this week. I could understand it if I heard something hit the hood, but I had no reason to suspect a dent! It would be different if it were just a chip, but a dent?!?

Looks like I might be making a carbon fiber or fiberglass hood after all. But I'll have to fill the dents with clay to make the mold.

Grrrrrrrr.
Hello,

If you would like to make a carbon fiber hood for the 2nd gen Prius I would be willing to allow you to mock it up using mine (since we live in the same state). I also believe my shop foreman toyotechwv would be interested as well.

Take care,
Josh
