Default Stumbled across detailed 2010 write-up

Hi,

Mission Zero - Toyota Previews Generation III 2010 Prius Hybrid

Quote:
. . . The multifunction gearset incorporates two sets of planetary gears: a power-split planetary gearset and a speed reduction planetary gearset. Both gearsets share the same ring gear, which drives the transaxle’s counter gear. The sun gear of the power-split gearset is connected to the 42 kW motor generator 1 (MG1); the planet carrier is connected to the engine. In the speed reduction planetary gear set, the sun gear is connected to MG2, the carrier is fixed, and the ring gear connects to the counter gear. A parking pawl is also part of the assembly, which is connected to a differential with a final drive ration of 3.267:1.
. . .
I have been going nuts trying to find this one bit of data. The whole write-up is one of the best collections I've seen.

Very good find Bob, thanks for sharing.

Even though we knew this already, its something small I am glad they finally addressed:

Quote:
Fuel tank. A new resin 11.9-gallon fuel tank does away with the bladder used in previous North American iterations of the Prius, and utilizes an enhanced evaporative emissions system that complies with AT-PZEV zero fuel evaporation regulations.

Hi Bob,

Nice article. Following is an excerpt:

"As Prius power steering and air conditioning systems remain electrically driven, the 2ZR-FXE powerplant is Toyota’s first beltless engine."

Actually, Highlander Hybrid (and RX400h) share Toyota's first beltless engine, the 3.3L V6. Although the engine coolant pump is mechanically driven, the timing belt turns that pump so there are no belts attached to the crankshaft pulley. Power steering and air conditioning are electric, like 2G and 2010 Prius.

Note the corrected value of 59w for the solar panel. This is closer to the 60w mentioned @ PCD.

I'd agree w/ the assessment that the Prius engine is the first truly beltless engine if the timing belt drives the HiHy water pump. However, until we go camless, there's still a parasitic drag caused by the timing chain ;-)

This is an excellent read and, if accurate, the best thing yet until the NCF guide is relased!

The source came from Green Car Congress. Yoshi-san was looking for the Final Drive ratio. I remember seeing it but couldn't find it. Thanks for finding it again.

I wished I'd found it there first! GreenCarCongress is such an excellent web site for facts and data. It is what Edmunds and a few other automotive web sites should aspire to become. Really, a quality source of news. But this explains why I couldn't find anything at the other web site worth reading. <grins>

When I find a good article at a web site, I'll spend time looking through the site for other similar articles. I spent nearly an hour and couldn't find another single article worth reading at the first web site. They had just reposted an article from GreenCarCongress and I suspect, not even bothered to site the source. D*mn I hate plagerism.
