Default III Blue Ribbon with Nav--am I crazy?

This is probably a really crazy thought, but I long ago learned that if you don't ask, you don't get.

Deliveries will be made to dealerships in the next couple of weeks, right? Most cars will go to priority orders, right? Maybe there will be a couple that don't have a specific order, or another order waiting in line for that exact configuration at that dealership. So they'd be available for dealer trading in the region.

But--what if . . . . one of those unclaimed cars somewhere is exactly what I want? I've been bombarded with Travelocity and United and American emails for weeks telling me about great airfares. Maybe my car is going to be waiting for me in Tulsa and it just doesn't know about me yet! How would we find out about each other? How would I know to fly to Tulsa to be united with the car of my heart?

Hiya, I live in Portland and just found the one of very few in California. Going next weekend to pick it up hopefully if it works out. Start dialing. Call all the dealers all over. If you want to email me your contact, I can let you know if a dealer calls me. I tried to reserve a package 4 blue metallic with sunroof, do you want the sunroof? I should have a dealer calling me if it comes in and if this one in Calif is really there then there should be one for you with my name on it in Or or Wash, maybe Calif. I called everyone searching, searching.

I assume that you know you can take delivery of California vehicles across the border in Arizona (elsewhere?) and avoid the Cal. sales tax. This is especially a great deal for those of us who live in Oregon that has NO sales tax (we do have lots of pot holes, though). I have done this several times from SoCal w/ minimal cost for a driver while chasing in a dealer provided vehicle.

Does it actually work this way? I thought when you go to register it in your state, you have to show proof that you paid the taxes on it, or else they make you pay the sales tax in your state. Maybe that's only in Texas. Or maybe I'm just mistaken.

Anybody else know how this works?

Here in Mass. they don't miss a trick - you buy it in NH (with no sales tax) then go to register in MA and they make sure they get their 5%!

Back in the day, the dealer had to do some tricks to make this work legally. Something about "paying" you to drive your own car as a dealer employee until you cross the border. Otherwise, you took delivery in CA and may be subject to sales tax there as well as the destination state.

Thanks, but spouse says no--noting how seldom we've been able to use the sunroof in my Mazda in Oregon!

By the way--are you getting a Crater Lake plate? I think they will look smashing with the Blue Ribbon.

I just talked with Jon at Gladstone. He says he'll get eight cars in the first delivery, but that the Portland distribution people won't tell him yet what his eight will be. He has hundreds on his waiting list, but I'm the only one wanting the Blue III with Nav.

What's frustrating is thinkng that, with computers, this is a two-minute research project. First, are any 1225 NV Blue coming to this region? Second, to what dealerships are they going? Then I call the dealerships to find out if they're spoken for. Then I'm done--either I've got one or I place an order with my local dealership and wait for the next shipment or the one after that.

Someone please tell me why I'm wrong. I know I'm impatient, and I started the process late and have some nerve being so impatient, but that shouldn't mean it's as much of a mystery as it seems to be.
