They are toyota employees at the port that installs them. They are genuine toyota accessories. They are taken off the shelf, not put on the boat with the car. After they get installed, a new monroney label (window sticker) is printed. Car gets shipped.
Thank you this helps a lot! So I assume with potential buyers' requests a dealer may negotiate with Toyota what kind of combination of port installed accessories it gets?

i would really like to wait until july...i hope i can find "my" prius @ msrp by then. a savings of $2500 +/- is worth pulling the trigger early.
I just ordered today, slightly below MSRP for a unit with mats only, no other options. Another dealer offered at MSRP, before negotiations. The two closest dealers were demanding far more -- one at MSRP with $2400 of required options, the other with fewer options but a significant ADM. When I disclosed to him my lowest offer, he suggested I buy it. Now I have.

My selling dealer indicates that Washington State has a quite large allocation. He thought it was because of the previous large volume, but I suspect the August 1 tax hike is also a factor.

Nothing to do with Toyota itself. The dealer is the one who says what port installed options it gets. It is just a matter of clicking a few keys. SET and GST regions are a little different, though. They tell the dealers what options are being added.
