Friends: 3 | I just got back from Toyota Irvine (Saturday, May30, 8:30pm). They have a Prius II and a Prius III, both dark gray. No sunroof. Sticker price is ~$23,500 on both, but both have a $4000 "market demand adjustment" to bring them to ~$27,500 each. If you want one of these, call Toyota Irvine right now. The salesman said they are still for sale to "whoever gets it first." I would have bought one, but I'm not going to pay $4000 above sticker. When they get to where I can buy one below sticker, then I will buy one. Last edited by Rybold; 05-30-2009 at 11:38 PM. |

Friends: 0 | wow, are they stupid? i'm sorry, but i used to live in irvine, and as rich as people are, i really don't think people are stupid to pay that much, especially when there are so many other dealers in OC and LA they could potentially go to for MSRP... |

Friends: 3 | Unfortunately, it's actually common for dealers in OC to markup newly-released vehicles. I see it all the time here ... and normally the vehicles sell right away. BUT, that is usually on luxury cars. It will be interesting to see if those Prius are still there a few days from now. |

Friends: 0 | Just because they ask or $3995 markup, doesn't mean they will find someone to pay it. That's just a negotiation point to make you feel like you got a great deal if you get them to "discount" from that asking price. Maybe they have a lot of 2009s and they want to make those look more attractive before they seriously try to move to 2010s. |

Friends: 0 | I love how they even use the odd-even pricing strategy for psychological effect ... $3995 ... NOT $4000 ... what a hose job! |

Friends: 0 | That is crazy. I'd sooner keep the car I have now than deal with dealerships like that. |

Friends: 0 | $4000 buys a lot of gas. Does you think the salesman gets a piece of that commission or it go straight to the dealership? A stupid buyer will probably knock off $2000 and think he got a great deal. I think this dealer and other dealers that slap the "market value" fees do this to keep a few cars on the lot so people can see them and test drive. Also you can advertise you have the 2010 Prius in stock which gets people in the door. Last edited by sluday; 05-31-2009 at 07:49 PM. |
