That would be very stupid on their part. My dealer tells me something like that and I'm posting it on the forum. And since Toyota's people are all over this forum that would not be something Toyota would be pleased knowing a dealer scaring customers into over priced maintenance and warranty plans.

I can see the conversations now Gee Bob, I had to buy that $1,900 seven year warranty and $800 maintenance program. The dealer pretty much said the car is a piece of crap and will kill you in maintenance and warranty issues over the next five years.
Bob to do it again I would never have bought a Prius if I knew this.

Can you say an absolute work of mouth PR nightmare.

Where're the folks who said thier dealers offered manicures and massages, etc while you get your car serviced??? - That's just genius! I can hear my friends ask "Where do you get your nails done?" "At the the Toyota dealership!"

If you're willing to pay 3 times the price you can get your Prius serviced at a Lexus dealer and get free Starbucks coffee and Dove ice cream bars while you wait.

I don't know if they still do it, but about 10 years ago my dad bought a Saturn and they had a "New Owner Orientation and Barbeque". I went with him just for kicks.

In a way it was brilliant. A few hotdogs, some chips and some pop, and The Dealership stressing how important it was to do all your maintenance at the dealership. For what was a maybe $2.00 worth of food, a few pep talks about warranty and maintenance and a lot of people were hooked like life long friends, into bringing their Saturn into the dealership for maintenance forever.

I think the whole "event" couldn't of cost them more than $40.00 plus whatever labor time lost for the technician to give a little speech about the importance of timely oil changes and I think they demonstrated how to change a tire.

Meanwhile most of the people attending left feeling like they had just joined a very special fraternity.

Good to know. I was armed with info about all the extras I did not want when in financing (thanks to PriusChat) - I will be on a similar defensive....... LOL

Do you think anyone at the dealers know anything at the 2010 Prius? I talk to a total of 4 Salesman, and I found out more info here than from them.

Dealers don't care about online forums, and Toyota doesn't seem to care about shady actions by dealers (as evidenced by many of the stories on PC). For example, my dealer added the extended warrantly for $2,495 without asking me (I noticed it when reviewing the paperwork with the finance guy and had it removed) and wanted to charge me $190 for the 5K maintenance. (I'm now using a different dealer for service and will eventually go to an independent mechanic.)

Exactly. Toyota does give you a maintenance guide, right? (I don't have a Prius yet - soon!) That is what you should follow and nothing else unless Toyota themselves send out some kind of update. Anything else and the dealership is trying to make extra money off of you. You can't void your warranty if you followed what the manual said to do.
