Rear noise when car is off

Yesterday I took the garbage out to the garage. While out there I heard a faint noise coming from the car. The noise was coming from the rear portion of the car - between the tires. The engine had been off for about 4 hours prior to that point and the car was locked. I grabbed the keys and started it up. Drove around the block and parked. I listened for about 15 minutes after turning off the car and no noise. Went back 2 hours later and no noise. When I got up this morning there was no noise.

What could it have been?

May be page 167 of the owner's manual.

Leak detection pump
Several hours after the engine is turned off, you may hear a sound coming
from underneath the luggage compartment for several minutes.
This is normal operation and does not indicate a malfunction.

Thanks. Obviously I need to find the time to read through the first manual. Working on the Nav one now.
