The control unit for the alarm has a dial on it to adjust the sensitivity. It's supposed to be in the lower panel with the mirror adjust and whatnot. I haven't opened it up myself, but I've seen diagrams.
Thnx, Sci....
Does the LED on the Indicator/mic panel blink after it's armed?
Mine does not....
I'm going back to dealer tomorrow for documentation...I got nada when I picked up the car.

Two wrenches together... good idea, thank you. I've seen pictures of the glass break sensor with it's little dial for sensitivity adjustment, just never seen it in place in the car, so I don't know where to look. Have you seen a diagram that shows it's location? And if so, do you have access to that document now? Thanks!

Mine doesn't blink either. It lights during the 30 second arming period and then just goes out. I know it works, since opening the door will set it off, but the light never blinks. Also doesn't say Toyota on the little panel with the light and microphone on mine either.

I picked my Gen III up from the dealer on Thursday, after they had installed the system. I too am experiencing what rachaelseven just described (well, described a month and a half ago): the red light lights up for 30 seconds when I lock the car, but then nothing else flashes.

There is a red icon on my dashboard display that does flash on and off, however. Is that related to the VIP system in any way? The icon was flashing on and off before the VIP system was installed, so I imagine it's not related.

I'm going to take the car back in to the dealer this week and ask about this, and ask them to show me how it works (and prove to me that it does work).

The only documentation I got was one little bilingual Spanish and English booklet. No other diagrams or anything. The booklet says the LED on the dash is supposed to flash, but mine doesn't.

That light's just showing you that the engine immobilizer is working.

Try this. Sit in the car, power off. Lock the car using the lock button on the fob. The alarm will arm. Then take a key and tap the middle of the driver's window. This should set off the alarm. If it does, you'll know the alarm is installed and working correctly - the glass break sensor only comes with the alarm. Tapping the window from the outside won't make enough noise in the car to set it off, which I why I suggest doing this test from inside. Worked for me and set my mind at ease about the sensitivity setting as well.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that you have to wait 30 seconds after locking the doors with the fob to give the system time to arm.

When doing the test, and the alarm goes off, what do you do to turn off the alarm and let it know everything is ok? One of the FOB buttons? I guess I should look at the manual. I think I want to test this out tomorrow.

Yup. Just press the unlock button on the fob.

Do I understand correctly that this system is already installed in the 2010 Prius? I am just paying for activation?

What exactly is the Prius Chat Shop selling? What do I get if I bought this accessory from them?

Thanks!

The VIP RS3200 is NOT included with the base Prius. This is an immobilizer standard on the car and many would argue that renders the alarm redundant. I won't engage that argument - both sides have merit - but what you get with the RS3200 is another ECU that controls the alarm, a glass break sensor, and a hood switch. It does need to be activated by someone with a Techstream unit though, even if you buy it from PC shop and install it yourself.
