Default Canadian DRL's

Canadian cars have Daytime running lights and automatic headlights, right?

On some cars, Miata's for instance that do not have DRL's in the US, all you have to do to get DRL' is to buy the module that is in the Canadian cars, but missing in the US cars. For my old Miata, it was simply a matter of plugging in a module, wiring and plug was already there.
I believe that Anne posted the the Netherland's spec'd car had auto headlights as well.
There is something that looks like a light sensor on my dash.

What makes a Canadian car have DRL's and auto headlights, Could it possibly be like the Miata and just be missing a module?

I'm probably nuts, this has probably already been looked at in the GenII and if so I apologize for being stupid, but what's different in the Canadian cars? I wouldn't think it would be a different wiring harness, I would think that for manufacturing you would only want one harness

I've read about some people who have imported cars to Canada from the US, and the DRL conversion is definitely something that has to be done to make the car legal. It's not all that complicated or expensive, but I think it involves more than just a module. I vaguely recall something about an item on the wrong side of the firewall, preventing cars after a certain model year from being converted to Canadian specs. It makes sense from a manufacturing standpoint that the wiring harnesses be identical, but there may be too many variations in specs and features to make that possible.

The item being on the wrong side is the engine immobiliser. That got crushed pretty quickly and you could import a Prius again.

There's a company that sells DRL modules (so you can import US cars). I forget the name but i'm sure if you search for importing a US car, you'll find some info on adding DRL.
