Friends: 0 | Hello all: First time on, looking for wisdom. We bought our '02 this spring with 35K. Are now at 39K with the power steering failure similar as described in other threads. From experience, manual (non-power) steering is easier to use than failed power steering. So, might it be possible to replace the failed PS unit with a manual steering unit? If yes, what do I tell the computer? Thanks Paul |

Friends: 14 | Hi new user. I think that Bob is answeering a different question, and that you want to install a manual steering rack with more turns 'lock to lock'. I know of no units that would fit, but this does not mean they don't exist. The reason that manual steering setups are easier to turn is that they are geared with more steering wheel revolutions lock to lock. Purely a matter of mechanical advantage. Were I you, I'd be looking for a steering replacement assembly from a salvage 2003. |

Friends: 20 | Doug is right. I was describing part of what it would take to 'defeat' the power steering assist so the existing steering gear would work unassisted. Except for parking or stationary steering turning, this would work although more strength is needed. Bob Wilson |
