09 battery in an 02

Saw this ad on craigslist for an 02 and they claim they replaced the battery with an 09 prius battery. Just wondering if this is possible.

While not strictly impossible, this retrofit would involve more than one 'new Prius' battery. They have 28 modules and the 2002 requires 38. The new battery modules apparently do not quite fit in the old box so some modification might be required in that as well. The key to battery longevity is careful cell/module matching and that would best be done with rather advanced equipment.

I know of XVipers as a Prius salvage parts seller on ebay. No opinion one way or another whether they are capable of this level of work.
