ROTFLMAO!!! OMG that was hilarious. Sometimes I go too far, but what can I say, us G1 owners get no respect! I am just a deep believer in our little cars! I have always wanted to own a small car with lots of tech in it, and our cars our it!

<SSSSSUUUUSSSSHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!>

Do you want people to find out about our $4,000 science fair projects?

As a car, many think it isn't worth much and that is OK with me. But as a lab for testing neat things!!!

I didn't see an answer: Do you need to have the 6 disc changer in order for this to work? I have the single cd player, and no nav system.

Hi there, sorry for not replying sooner, but you do not need a CD changer. If you have the CD player, then simply connect the supplied Y adapter cable called the CAS-LEX cable (that is what USA Spec calls it), to the existing Y adapter cable that your CD player attatches to and then plug in your CD player and the iPod interface to this CAS LEX cable, and you are good to go. Then you simply press the DISC button on your dash once for CD Player, then press DISC again for the iPod Interface. If you set the jumpers on the iPod Interface to OFF-ON-OFF-OFF, then you will initiate the MD Changer mode on the screen which will permit the text display. Even USA Spec did not know our Prius' could do that, and they have thanked me repeatedly for thoroughly testing this unit in our G1's. I have had it for over a year and it works flawlessly. Great thing too is that it does not conflict with the Toyota Blu Logic bluetooth kit I have installed as well, it is so seamless, I absolutely love it.

In that setting, probably the existing Y cable that came with the CD player takes care of the extra wiring to power the clock and cluster switches as used on the G1, saving the need to make any mods to the ipod adapter cable.

If installing the adapter without a CD player present, it might be necessary to add some wires to the adapter cable as I described in the Dice iPod adapter thread above (unless the CAS-LEX cable already has the extra wires unlike the Dice one).

Hi Chap, yes the CAS-LEX (or the exact same CAS-TOY) cable that USA-Spec made resolves these issues flawlessly. The CAS-LEX cable was actually designed to resolve MFD issues on the Toyota Landcruiser and Lexus LX470 (which included lagged display and occaisional errors), but I simply resolved that since the G1 Prius uses the exact same MFD as found in the Landcruiser and LX470, that it should work as well. And to my relief and USA Spec's astonishment, it worked perfectly in the Prius as well. No wire splices necessary, and it is truly a plug and play installation.

In further reply, you can also install the iPod kit, with no CD Player attatched and simply disconnect the existing CD player and plug the iPod interface into that. It works perfectly too, but you lose the ability to play CD's and that is no fun! But since the Toyota CD Players are so failure prone, this is a cheap and excellent alternative to buying the ridiculous CD Players. Thanks Chap, you made me realize something that may help G1 owners that have failed CD Players with this excellent alternative. Good one! : )
