Japan's No. 2 manufacturer?!?!? Since when did they pass Nissan? Nissan is Japan's No.2 manufacturer, Honda's 3rd.

Civic Hybrid Recall:

The rubberized protective cover of the voltage converter on the Civic hybrid car (the DC-DC converter) has insufficient strength. When there is too much pressure especially from a heavy person who sits on the back seat, the protective cover may get slowly damaged the wiring and the terminal may bend. Because of that, the terminal may get short circuit; fuse blown and the engine may stall.

Affected parts:

It looks like the DC-DC (HV battery 144V to 12V) voltage converter has a defect.

Actually the HV battery is 158V, 144V is for HCH I.

I don't think Honda is saying the voltage converter has a defect, what they are saying is the protective cover has insufficient strength and may bend if there are too much pressure especially from a heavy person who sits at the back seat. That may potentially cause short to the terminals, causing fuse to blow and may stall the engine. IMHO, if the protective cover can break easily even with an average weight person, then I would call that a defect.

Heard there was one serious case happened in US. It was caused by a 300+ pounders that likes to throw the back and taking all the half of the back seat (almost daily over a long period of time)! (Sorry, no offense to those heavy weight people, just reproducing what I have read).

Okay, that makes sense, even if the gif is in japanese. I've seen
that rubber boot in the affected spot -- it's one of the points to
sanity-test to make sure you *don't* have 12V under there before
going after the main battery connections.
