My wife bought a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid because she found the location of the rear view mirror in a 2007 Prius to be annoyingly blocking her view of the street. OK. She has been happy with the car, but first the paint started flaking off the "running board". And when we washed it this weeked, we noticed that what appears to be the clear-coat on the edges of the hood is peeling away.

Anyone else having problems with the paint on a 2007 HCH?

so paint is peeling on the hood and the rocker panels?!?

Isn't the rocker panel usually coated with the 'orange peel' to minimise rock chips?

See... another reason to get rid of that piece of Junk.... I am sure your local toyota dealer will take in trade for a brand new Prius. You won't regret it....

Just kidding - I am sure its covered by the warranty - good luck.

It could be a paint defect, but I'll bet that the real culprit is that "environmentally friendly" low-VOC paint.. Doesn't stick very well without special primers (which are likely worse in terms of environmental impact than the original VOC-laden topcoats) and chips/flakes/scratches easily.

I have a 2007 Civic Hybrid as well. The problem your describing could be from the white plastic "sealer" they put on all new cars for trasport. If you see new cars just comming off the truck, or traveling down the road on the truck, you will see them all with what looks like white plastic paint on all the parts that could be exposed to the eleiments. It's there to prevent paint chips during transportation. The real problem is the tech who detailed your car at the dearler ship didn't get all of the stuff off.
Mine was the same way.
